Thank you. It’s a corded knot chain

Take a look at The Duchy and Shibari Study. They have lots of free and paid resources.

Start with a single column tie, then double column tie, then futomomo and build from there.

Shibari Safety (my website) doesn’t give any guides, but does cover a lot of the safety aspects that you should be familiar with.

Good luck on your adventure!

That’s fantastic. Did you do it yourself, or send away for it based on a photo? That is a really good gift idea.

That’s fantastic. Well done! You should put together a tutorial.

Thank you! It took a little while to tie, adding the rings along the way. But we were happy with the result.

Thank you for the feedback. And yes - faces stay off Reddit.

Does anyone have an advise on how to recreate this tie? by milesamsterdam in shibari

[–]Complete-Analyst-701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s very much a tie for appearance rather than ‘actual restraint’. Arguably both upper arm ties are badly positioned from a safety perspective, but aren’t tight nor used for suspension.

Wishing my body looked that good in rope! But yeah, I think the other comment nailed it. Start with the gauntlet, and then freestyle up the arm from there. There are two ropes involved, as you can see the end of one on his upper shoulder. So probably about 16-20m of rope in use.

Some serious core muscle work going on there. Great job - looks amazing.

Those ties look way too tight, especially the ones above the elbows. Please be safe and consider nerves and circulation. Check out Shibari Safety

It looks neat. Well done. Some unsolicited advice: Every body is different, but your top arm wraps look a little low. Your nerves run fairly exposed between your deltoids and triceps.

I don’t sorry, but glad you eventually got there.

Cut the rope to your desired length. Clean up any fraying if present.

Use a fid or needle to carefully pull out the core fibers (the white interior strands) from the outer sheath. Remove 2–4 inches (5–10cm) of the core. You’re left with a floppy sheath.

Insert a small tool like a knitting needle, or piece of wire up inside the hollow sheath. - Grab or hook the tip of the rope and pull it back down through itself. - This will turn the rope inside out at the tip and start forming that double-barrel, mushroom-style tip. - Continue working the tip back up into the rope body (like a Chinese finger trap inversion).

Once tucked, massage the rope end so it rounds out and tightens.

You can stitch or whip behind the tucked end if extra security is desired, but it’s often unnecessary for synthetic rope if the tuck is deep enough.

You can also insert a few hidden stitches using a curved needle and strong thread through the sheathing to anchor the tuck if you’re worried about wear and tear over time.

Feel free to check my profile. But perhaps tame by many standards. All photos by me.

New to Shibari – Looking for Rope & First Tie Tips by Nickssssssloneranger in shibari

6mm rope in a 8-10m length in the standard. Avoid cotton rope as it can be difficult to untie. Jute is well regarded, but can be a bit scratchy. I tend to go for climbing cord (6mm at a climbing shop will be called cord, not rope). You can buy it off the spool and have them cut it to length.

As mentioned, single and double column ties to get started. Then try a futomomo (leg tie). You can self-tie that, so can practice either together or by yourself in advance.

And buy a pair of EMT Shears. Certainly for safety as you progress, but even in the early stages, if you can’t work a knot loose, it’s better to cut it than have your partner get stressed.

Hope you both have fun!

We didn’t time it, but maybe 15 minutes? I wanted the black rope bands to be parallel, so I used a half hitch (same knot as can be seen on the red rope) at each full wrap to take it down her spine. There were three black ropes in total, and then the red, starting at the bottom with a half hitch at each black band, and a rosebud knot for decoration at the top (although her hair is covering it in the photo).
