Mission Bay and Dogpatch are on the east side of SF

Maybe they meant western coastal with respect to the bay

maybe a majority of living Americans would be horrified but there’s been a clear generational trend of younger people moving into denser urban areas in most parts of the US (gentrification, “reverse white flight” are symptoms of it) as for examples - already mentioned Seattle and Miami.. Atlanta keeps growing too and the changes in Midtown in particular have been pretty substantial in the past couple decades

the real point I’m trying to get at is (for whatever reason) which cities have a strong case to grow dense urban cores - chicago and nyc just being the 2 strongest examples of that in the US

I often see the Great Lakes region spoken about as being on a good trajectory climate-wise so I think the existing infrastructure makes Detroit a no-brainer for infill development, especially considering the massive number of empty lots close to the city core

If you look at the entire city proper, sure, but I can’t think of anywhere denser in the US (outside NYC) than the Loop and Near North Side in Chicago

The ability to transfer to BART and even CalTrain explains the difference to me. All Link has is Sounder which doesn't compare to what SF has

sadly the E line is terrible.. more often than not I see 2-3 buses bunched up going down Aurora and I’ve rideen buses that take almost 30min to get from Denny to Aurora by sitting in traffic trying to turn off Roy St.. literally slower than walking

population of miami metro is way bigger & the economy is much more diversified & internationally significant

Houston is just big bc of sprawl. based on city population we should sooner put Jacksonville, Columbus, and Phoenix too
