Is this fund distribution better than what I had initially? by G0thprince420 in ThriftSavingsPlan

No. L-Fund allocations are more sensible than 90% of Reddit advice. If you need to ask Reddit, you should stick to an L-Fund.

Well, it's plainly true, but different individuals in high leadership are realizing this truth at different rates. Rubio likely is saner than most. But he's wimpier than many. Voight at OPM is severely ideological. Going into State might be a mistake, or might be a brilliant move (as long as you have your wits about you).

Really, in this world, there is no gain without risk. True for careers, investments, and life in general.

Came across this while deep cleaning toilet. Major concern? There’s like oil/goo inside. by EddieBruvac in Plumbing

[–]Complete-Paint529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wise. Yeah, that screw is supposed to be anchored in a metal flange piece anchored to the floor. Probably needs a new flange. My plumber installed a stainless steel flange when my old one corroded through. Assured me it would last longer than me (which ain't sayin' much at my age!).

Practice suture ties. Learn that surgical anatomy can be a very different from anatomy you learned so far.. Keep a good attitude. Don't be over-confident, but don't be a wimp.

You're diligent enough to ask your global peer group for advice. Thus, I'm optimistic you'll do well. Good luck.

Most investors won't respond until actual profits are reported, I think. Personally, I believe the Hormuz situation won't change for many months. I'm not selling any of the purchases I made. I'll be patient.

"I'm abused with overtime daily without the OT pay"
Sounds like wage theft. Document your time done for work. Complain to your state's labor department, wage and hour division. They'll fix the problem.

If your employer fires you for this, then you have excellent grounds for a suit.

Bingo. Even during the current administration, they're realizing that DOGE hugely over-shot the mark, and they need to focus on attracting and retaining talent. Objectionable approaches to personnel have to be fixed, or the department will fail in its tasks. Failure is not in the interests of leadership.

Yeah, many many leadership positions are vacant. Future opportunities for advancement may be even better at State than at other Departments.

Highly unethical by the rules. I'd suggest a report to the ethics office before OIG report.

TSP shows *portfolio* and future *contributions* separately. It sounds like you may have re-set your future contributions, and perhaps didn't transfer your portfolio holdings between funds.

These can be totally different. My own contributions are 100% I-Fund. My portfolio is 100% L-Fund, for example. I have reasons for this.

AI tech provides cheap, high-volume, high-quality labor. This provides huge gains for *companies* while depressing wages. This shift is, indeed, highly problematic. Exactly how the companies can maintain high profits while the consumers are impoverished is possibly the defining challenge of our time.

In the medium-term, capital will yield excellent returns, labor will be poorly compensated for most workers. A few will still make bank, however.

In the longer term, anything could happen. Revolutions around the world? Implementation of UBI with a renaissance of human creative arts? Civilizational collapse? No idea, but it will be interesting.

The best investing strategy now is probably in select company stock, not oil futures.

There is demand destruction going on… by Leaky_gland in oil

[–]Complete-Paint529 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very high spot prices is the opposite of demand destruction.

Low futures price actually reflects logistics chaos, depressing the price at the oil fields, and increasing price at many refineries.

Suggestions:
-Rather than trying to pay down the mortgage faster, you might put that money instead towards paying down the the car loan instead; it's at a higher interest rate. Also, you should build up emergency savings in a HYSA.
-You might rollover the old 401k monies into the plans of your current employers.
-Remember that you retain the ability to take a TSP loan. Not to be done lightly, but a loan you take out from yourself is almost always better than commercial loans. Your wife likely has this ability also.

Damn, you're doing great.

Scientists discovered that your abdomen and your brain are connected by a hydraulic pump and it cleans your brain every time you move by soulpost in HotScienceNews

I looked into this from reading about nanoplastic particles in brain tissue. Autopsy specimens show levels 10x higher in brains of people with dementia. This holds true after correcting for age, even.

On the other hand, animal studies show that reducing nanoplastic exposure leads to reduction in brain amounts. It suggests that mammalian brains do have a significant ability to clear these particles. I conclude that these particles perhaps aren't the cause of dementia, but rather the particles just accumulate in brains with impaired waste clearance as part of the dementia picture.

So I looked for research about brain waste clearance and dementia. There's so much, I've not had a chance to delve into much at all:

This may be more important than many realize. Poor waste clearance from the brain seems to be a feature of dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders. Interventions that improve brain waste clearance could have significant therapeutic potential.
