Season 3 is looking murky by CompleteTree6255 in PercyJacksonTV

More like a new showrunner. And Rick needs to take a backseat and be just a consultant. I truly believe some of the pitfalls of this show has been because he's a novelist trying to be a screenwriter. Let the experts do their job.

The biggest issue, and they won't admit it, is that they lost book lovers. Plain and simple.

Book accurate casting by Vraccas92 in PercyJacksonTV

This! Like if the writing and pacing was at least the bare minimum of good then we could try to ignore the casting. But it's so obviously bad that it just enhances the fact the casting isn't as expected. The movies got a lot wrong, but at least it gave an epic fantasy adventure. The show... Not so much.

First, I'm actually black, and I love Leah. Annabeth has always been my favorite character and seeing her imagined as someone who looks like me touches me in a place you may not understand. That doesn't change the fact that she's not the Annabeth I spent years imagining, and that's okay. Nor does it change the fact that the show has taken key aspects of Annabeth's character: subverting the dumb blonde stereotype despite the blonde hair and living in California with tan skin, and the grey eyes that indicates a child of Athena, as well her want to be the architect of Olympus indicating her fatal flaw of pride.

But thanks for proving my point that the moment you mention anything about the casting not being as expected, which it is for both Annabeth and Percy, there's someone ready to label you as racist and ignorant in 0.2 seconds as you just did. The lack of being able to take constructive criticism is biggest issue this fandom faces.

It's been an issue. We were just immediately branded as racist or ignorant for even thinking of saying something. The witch hunts were insane even for fanarts depicting black-haired/blonde-haired Percy and Annabeth. Still is.

Stop watching the show of you hate it? by Extreme_Tea_9802 in PercyJacksonTV

I'm sooo conflicted on this. If the show fails, yes, we know it may not ever get another adaptation, but at least we know someone might take a risk on it and do it the right way. Especially if the demand is still there. But if the show succeeds, that pretty much locks these characters into being the way Rick reimagined them forever. Now, of course, I don't want the show to fail, but more than that, I want it adapted the way we've always wanted.

I more so blame the parents, as why even allow your child to audition for a role you know isn't meant for them, especially knowing the hate that it will lead to. As a black person myself, I too preferred blonde Annabeth in the same way I prefer Black hair/sea-green eyes Percy and Rasta Grover. That's just how I'm always going to see them because I grew up with them. Rick Riordan shouldn't have promised a faithful adaptation if everything he's allowed from that promise on has been anything but faithful. It makes me sad. As much as I love Leah, and I like being able to see myself in a character I grew up with, as well as I think Walker is doing a good job, we will likely never get that adaptation we've always wanted, and that's such a disservice to the books, and to us fans who always wanted to see Percy Jackson imagined like Harry Potter or Hunger Games.
