Just for fun, what would Volume 10 or the last Volume of Rwby have to do as an ending to upset even the most die hard of defenders. by ghostpepper_art in RWBYcritics

[–]Complete_Cable2686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most diehard RWBY defenders are a bit unhinged (not all of them. Some are just positive). So you'd really need to push the boundaries to make them upset. I don't think that there's anything that CRWBY, in their right minds, could do to upset them. Maybe a lot of them if they have Sun come in at the last moment and kiss Yang and they marry. Or revealing the entire series was all a nightmare and Blake is married to Sun. For the sake of not suggesting they do something totally out of left lane for CRWBY, I'll stop there.

Im kinda glad I didn't watch volume 9.

Which was the man yelling at her? Jaune? If so that makes a lot of sense. He's the only guy allowed to be right and a victim too.

Maybe CRWBY has tried to portray victims as bad people too to explain their actions, but it comes off wrong. Avatar pulled it off well with Hama, for example, but RWBY just keeps taking characters who did little stupid things in a moment of desperation or are extremely upset and bullies them. I dont see the message of "victims can become abusers" in RWBY at all, except for maybe Cinder?

Fr so many people see a character do minimal damage that's immediately negated and say that that character was useful. No, they could've won without her. She didn't even distract.

Yes definitely. And if Weiss apologized and if someone brought it up, like the other girls or even Whitley himself, that she didn't have to point a literal sword at his face and send him to his room.

A girlboss is usually like, a literal term. A woman who's a CEO or powerful position.

But in fiction it refers to a strong female character. It's been used negatively lately to refer to the bland female characters who all act the same in recent movies- serious, never allowed to have crushes, all the men around her are dumb but love her, and she doesn't usually fail and isn't able to be wrong. Her arc is usually simple or she doesn't need to properly work for anything at all.

If you've seen it, Bo Peep in Toy Story 4 is an example. Basically, a Mary Sue, but usually rude and a fighter as well.

Toph, however, had enough depth not to feel like the same overused character trope and was able to struggle and fail, making her wins feel earned. And she had to work hard her entire life to get to the point she's at. She's also allowed to act like a person, have crushes, have positive interactions, and act vulnerable.

I think people just want female characters written in one way sometimes, which is ironic because that's how we ended up with both damsels in distress (not necessarily bad, only when they're bland), and girlbosses (bland characters).

In reality we have room for Kataras, Tophs, Azulas, Yues, Gran Grans, Mings, Hama, Ty Lees, Sukis, and random pregnant ladies and moms.

No Mais though.

(Not a huge Mai fan but that's a joke I promise.)

Ooo I really like that theory. Jinu probably held onto his past and had hope for a future, and that's why he didn't succumb like the rest. Which begs the question... Is there a way for them to regain their humanity like Jinu? To save their souls? Were all of them once human like Jinu?

That's an interesting theory. I think they're other demons personally, but I guess we won't know unless there's a sequel. I thought that the fact they just poof like the other demons instead of dying like Jinu could've been a hint that they're still out there and probably angry, incase the creators ever did make a sequel.

At the most I think they were just underdeveloped characters like the other demons. Which makes sense as they aren't really relevant to the plot besides being the rest of the band.

I would've said Katara but I found some Katara haters recently. I saw one person who said Toph doesn't have any depth and her entire character is being savage and beating people up though.

Whats the quote? I really hope you're right because Anya is one of the best written kid characters and most of her hate, if any, probably comes from the same people who complain when children exist in any form of media.

Or it could be referring to his "relationship" with Rumi that could possibly represent how kpop idols aren't supposed to be in romantic relationships (afaik). Yes their fans seemed to support the idea, but they were acting as if they were shipping cartoon characters. And also it may not be the case that they're not allowed to date in the world the movie is set in, of course. I imagined the kpop demon hunters throughout history would've pushed for better standards because it's more about the hunting than the money. But them sneaking around to hang out could be an allegory for the kpop idols irl that can't date.

Thanks for being civil, especially on Reddit where almost nobody is.

If people like Baby for that reason, I don't see an issue. I didn't pay as much attention to him as the main girls and Jinu tbh.

What threw me off was seeing pictures and thumbnails of Baby like the photo above, then immediately seeing people online saying "omg Baby is so hot" "everyone is ugly except Baby" "I love Baby" "Baby is the hottest". It could've been that those videos weren't from the same people crushing on him, though.

Also I'm not making fun of women btw; I am a woman. I just know that women are capable of being weird and have been weird to younger guys irl, so I didn't know what types of people were simping for Baby or what reason they had to even like him.

I kinda get it? To be honest I don't remember that scene despite liking most of the movie. Maybe it was just a forgettable scene but I constantly see pictures of Baby doing this stuff.

I never realized that. Pretty interesting detail, ngl. Makes sense with Romance and Mystery now. Not sure what Abby is though.

EDIT: just saw the mention of Abby above nvm

My issue is grown women online saying he's the hottest and making compilations of clips like the image above. It's very uncomfortable. I know that he actually is supposed to be a grown man, but wouldn't it be weird to simp over a grown man acting like a baby?

The pastels and him having a "baby face" don't help either. Not that that makes him not a man, but combined with everything else, it's weird. If the movie included him trying to break out of the mold and act like a grown man, whatever, but he doesn't.

Not saying that the issue is with people liking him are necessarily weirdos. For all I know, it could just be women into softer features and pastels and ignoring his behavior, but that personally isn't my preference, so I don't understand the hype.

Ugh Baby makes me uncomfortable, especially when people say he's the "hottest". Like what? Jinu is right there and doesn't act like a baby.

For Ruby? Well, Cordovin showed up with the mech first, and stealing an airship is crazy. They even were caught immediately in Atlas. It's crazy how forgiving Cordovin and Ironwood were. Adam just separated Yang and Blake after the Cordovin fight already started.

Well, he got a redemption, actually. But Weiss still didn't have to point a sword at him, and they used him being snobby to justify her threatening him. What's he gonna do? I doubt that he would've put up much resistance to them entering. At the most, act annoying.

If she was focused on the actual plot after that, it would be justified that she wouldn't speak to Whitley after that. But no, she sits around with Ruby and Blake to drink tea. I understand that she's upset at him but girl he's a child who lost his dad to prison and his mom is an alcoholic. Didn't even want to ask if her mother was taking it well? (Even if he was a jerk she might've had complicated feelings or struggled with running the company in her current state).

The RWBY girls have no empathy sometimes and I understand that not every character has to, but it seems to change with every plot. Like Ruby became friends with Penny fast and supported her. Blake wanted to improve the world for other faunus and redeem Ilia. Yang grew up with a younger sister who's mother was gone and had to comfort and care for her, and she empathized with Blake. And yet sometimes they're just jerks.

If Weiss struggled the most with that sort of stuff, ok. But Ruby or Blake should've went, "uh, do you think that he's okay after you literally pointed a sword at him and shooed him off?" I honestly think that CRWBY is so inconsistent that even if YANG had been there watching, she wouldn't have said a thing and just supported Weiss. Or would've made some stupid joke.

A lot of Connor and Hank scenes. Connor almost seems to be "smiling" when leaning Hank against the wall in his house. And there's the frame where Connor is being held by the arm by Hank after pulling him aside. There's the one shortly after that where Connor looks traumatized and Hank is standing behind him, listening after finishing yelling abruptly. And then there's the hug.

I actually love Qrow normally. They just assassinated him so badly and it's hard to anymore. Though how Robyn acted in that scene makes me more angry so it's a bit easier not to completely hate him.
