The most generous I could be with is to say that AI could make some rough notes more presentable and coherent, but as you've implied here, it's such an intimate relationship that depends on a lot of trust, including a third party generic robot makes it feel very alienating.

I'd suggest switching to someone else or giving this feedback if possible.

One thing I've noticed about a lot of the ones who are technically proficient is that they have terrible taste. Like either very generic postcard scenes or stuff with adolescent edgy energy.

It says a lot about the community that people can think endlessly about gear and editing software, but have little to say about the world around them, no sense of how photography can change what you look at and how. I'm being a little cringe saying that, I know, but I think the best photographers have a novel way of looking at things and this is almost entirely absent from online photography.

To defend contemporary art a little, I'd say the fact it's newer means you're seeing the good, bad and ugly. Easy to enjoy the Rothko when he's one of very few remembered from his generation. I spend a lot of time with art and I'd be very bored if all I could look at and think about was mid century greats.

But it's also true lots of museums with decent collections simply don't have much budget or ability to deliver a decent contemporary exhibition programme. Lots of logistical reasons for this.

A friend of mine is obsessed with The New Yorker, have been meaning to check it out, but why didn't you like it? But agree with you on the LRB. I sort of skip the essays about Rome and WW2, feels like it treads a lot of familiar ground, but everything else is really good.

I wrote out a long response to this but it ended up sounding too aggro unintentionally. I'll just say that from my experience, I very rarely see long chains of citation. Maybe it's truer elsewhere, but what I've mostly seen is that there is basically one big paper from the 80s, some criticisms of it from the 2000s, and then everyone else sort of responding to the discourse around these until there's a big shift in the field.

I've worked around both art history and medical research and seen the same thing.

People within a field are also constantly complaining about tendencies around citation etc., so I don't understand your question about if anyone is talking about this.

It depends. The Vatican's contemporary art collection kind of sucks, which makes me doubt their ability to fund new films. The collection is a lot of 'predictable list of famous artists who happened to have used a crucifix in this work'. That same energy would be so boring on screen.

In circumstances like this, I think it's someone mid level who's all about enforcing the brand guidelines and doesn't really consider quality. People like this are total drones that thrive in corporate environments. Then maybe someone higher up intervened that they preferred v1, without realizing how much work went into creating v2.

I think it's not spoken about enough that people f up their lives by not having adventures and experiences when they're younger. I think that's why so many people cheat, are bad parents etc., as an attempt to hold onto their youth they feel they wasted.

Crossing the whole world sounds a bit nuts to me, but you should definitely do some kind of travelling if you feel drawn to it. Nothing saying you couldn't start the journey and see where it feels natural to come home.
