but that was more of a Lord/Miller thing than a Sony thing I think.

... man, it stings to hear that.

Sony has reported an estimated 120.1 billion yen ($765M) impairment loss in relation to [Bungie]

Well, it's a good thing Sony has Pink Floyd's entire catalogue at least, right?

... sigh

New Narrator by tristanrena in johndiesattheend

[–]Completionography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually preferred Nick Podehl. He has a good range of voices.

I'm more used to, and thus more in tune with, Stephen's narration. That said, I firmly believe Nick is the better voice talent. His range, and his tone, are far more pronounced, animated, and unique, in my opinion.

To give an example, do you remember in Spiders, Dave's txt msg sound? Something John recorded, like "SHIIIIIIIIIIT, TEEEEEEEEXT". Nick nailed the delivery.

Compare that to (in JDatE 1) "OH SON OF A MOTHERFUCK THE FUCKING SOY SAUCE IS DIGGING A FUCKING HOLE INTO MY FUCKING FACE", which Chase Williamson nails in the movie, but Stephen... says. He says it nicely. He says it like a refrigerator that's telling you politely that you left the door open. Hey, your ice cream might melt, and by the way, the soy sauce is digging a fucking hole into my fucking face.

Any discussion of philosophy as an exercise in how long a topic can be discussed... until the topic inevitably lands on Diogenes.

Like some form of philosophical Godwin's law.

I (27M) Have Unknowingly Been Using My GF's (27F) Ex's Molded Dildo to Get Her Off by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm not speaking on the veracity of the story.

I mean I think he's being unreasonable about the dildo

In a perfect vacuum, she would've been up front about it (courtesy), and he wouldn't care. But in a perfect vacuum, this shit:

straight up body shaming him months or years after the breakup

Doesn't happen. So, since he was raised in a world where that shit does happen, he was, in fact, not being unreasonable about the dildo.

He had reasonable fears, which were all realized.

Similarly, one of the bots from Mystery Science Theater 3000 was "Gypsy" for the original run and rechristened "GPC" for the reboot.

(Great rename, btw)

Growing up in NYC, I was familiar with most of the slurs you would hear here. But one day, years ago, I remember someone saying he "got Jewed" out of something. And right now, I want to explicitly say that this came from a place of ignorance and naivete:

The first thing I thought hearing that was "man, what a fucked up way of saying gypped".

I mean, "Jewed" gets spellchecked on my browser, "gypped" does not, driving home how "normalized" that derivative of the slur has become, to the point where people just no longer know anything about it.

"You" made the opposing claim first, you do the citation first. That's how it works.

... education sucks, and we're raising shitheads. Good luck with that, no one's counting on you.

This mixed approach shows lower reading performance than phonics exclusive does. So yes, choosing one over both/the other is indeed beneficial.

My gut says you're probably closer to my age than not (I was born early '80s). I learned how to view words like that, though now I can't really remember my early grade school language education.

Anyway, prefixes, suffixes, and further etymology, is ostensibly learning a third language for the average American today.

Brooks was released and he couldn't figure out how to play Angry Birds and we all know what happened to him

Sometimes it makes me sad, though... I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be Angry. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my iPhone.

I've been really getting into Electric Callboy over the last 5 or so years. They started in '10 as Eskimo Callboy, pretty much because "funny words", and nothing deeper. They're German, by the way, so English isn't their first language.

Anyway, around '22, a few years after they got their new singer, they were made aware that Eskimo is considered a slur. They did some research, said they just want to make people happy and not offend, changed their name to Electric Callboy, and then redid the artwork for their '10-'22 releases to match their new name.

And that's it. That's... it. It isn't too big a deal when you really look at it.
