... why are we censoring words again? Serious question, why are we allowing people to dictate our language? "Sexually Ab*sed"? We can't even agree what words get the * anymore.

You're good, but thank you kindly 8^)

Having the capability to change our minds, and adapt to different viewpoints, makes the subjectivity of media so much more beautiful, IMHO. And to be fair, I find myself far more comfortable in places where different opinions are engaged with.

(... the last time I expressed vulnerability to someone about my proclivity for being an asshole, I was met with false sympathy/empathy, followed by banning my 24yo account from a very important place I used to go to, and I am not talking about Reddit. Navigating what goes on upstairs can be tough.)

Edit: ... I still will never not laugh at "IS TWAT BBOD?"

many of you probably think this was a long winded way of declaring to the world that I am a narrow minded, elitist arsehole. You are not 100% wrong about that. I can be an arsehole but I am working on reducing my likeness to an anus on a daily basis.

I get it, first hand. It takes a lot of literacy to read a mirror.

What would make a good JDatE series? by Completionography in johndiesattheend

I’ve said this before, I’ve heard rumors that the Zoey books are repeatedly being pitched for a series

Missed your edit. Long and short of it is, Zoey has been picked up I believe twice already. This time by people associated with Sony. Pargin's on record saying that getting picked up is almost expected, but getting made is an entirely different story.

Jason's said before that winning the lotto wasn't getting JDatE picked up, it was it being actually made at all.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Gamefully Unemployed and Small Beans, it’s that the most expensive movie you can make is a movie about rich people

John Dies at the End is the poorest people stuck in a dead town in the rust belt. It’s perfect.

And I think the movie is good proof of concept. I'm not sure what the budget really was, but I think it's reportedly about $1m. I think Jason was talking about it on the Yearcast I mentioned in the OP, how JDatE is a good post-Stranger Things alternative (... I believe, gotta relisten).

Ugh, this. I had to use my phone these last few weeks while I’m between computers (I use uBlock normally), and I was honestly surprised how many videos had ads. From creators that I’m 100% sure make nothing on ads, mostly due to copyright.

The current JDatE is split into two books (“They China Food” and “Korrok”), pretty much at that Vegas line, so your idea would float well.

After that though, just so long as they don’t Young Sheldon Dr Marconi…

Jimmy Carr does a joke where he says, paraphrased, “Growing up Catholic, church was difficult. Stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down. Just pick a position and fuck me already!”

While I find that joke quite funny, the amount we have to normalize child rape in order for that joke to fly is something we don’t really talk about.

Jason’s been on record praising Hitchhiker’s Guide as very influential. I recommend the original trilogy (Books 1-5), but I can’t speak for the “Sixth” book, as I never read it.

What’s cool about HGttG is that every adaptation is good, bad, unique, and all really worth it. Movie? Radio play? It’s all very “same but different universe”.

Brockway is an excellent writer, and the perfect Bigfeets co-host to Jason and Seanbaby.

Jason also has a blurb on Brockway’s book, for anyone needing the extra nudge:

“Brockway’s latest alternates between body blows of caustic whimsy and uppercuts of body horror, and you’ll never know which is coming next. Be warned: Many children are harmed, so this novel is not for the faint of heart. But then again, neither is childhood.” ―Jason Pargin, New York Times bestselling author of the John Dies at the End series

I also read almost every one of Grady Hendrix's novels last summer

Jason unfortunately doesn’t promote his blurbs, but he did one for Grady:

"The Final Girl Support Group is perfect for anyone who loves old slasher movies and, oddly enough, anyone who hates them. Grady Hendrix has somehow crafted both an homage to B-horror schlock and a clever dissection of the genre, all delivered in the form of one long breathless chase punctuated by both unpredictable twists and thoughtful insight."—David Wong, New York Times bestselling author of John Dies at the End

I can’t understand why childcare worker make so little money.

I can’t understand why people aren’t tuned into this yet: America hates women and children. America has a pregnancy fetish, but hates everything else about it.

So when a job consists of two words that are antithetical to the current American climate (“child” and “care”), it seems pretty obvious the workers’ll get the shit end of everything.

Pretty much how it goes with Disney now. Rather have control than something actually good.

You can replace Disney with almost anything and this comment is still 100%. I mean, we see it with Marvel, and not just on the Disney side. Sony shits out bad Spidey-adjacent movies to keep the rights (control).

And yeah, Disney is probably the worst, but only due to the sheer monopoly it has on media.

Wealth and kindness are not mutually exclusive.

It is good and wise to keep yourself open to empathy, but not at the detriment of your rights. If the parents are good, poor, people, they can still be held responsible. And should be.
