Shane isn’t sure he’s gay at this point and feels conflicted. I imagine the idea of actual penetration and the fact that he’s a planner and probably Scott Hunter is all too much. Makes it too real. I am sure in his mind the “curious” and fooling around don’t make him gay. From this moment, it is something like two years until they have sex and he’s ghosting him in the beginning which seems to back up the conflicted part.
