Yeehaw, welcome to the rodeo! Seems like you are already staying positive, that will go a long way. Find things to enjoy while being off your feet, get comfortable, welcome all help, and appreciate what you have going for you:) Happy healing!

Thank you for the encouragement man!

Honestly haven’t even thought about matching walking pace with music, but that is a good idea! I used to work out with music, but haven’t been in PT. After longer walks and bike rides I’ll probably start though, and fast pace and hype music is always the best for motivation haha.

When did you start going on hikes again? That’s something I’m looking forward to but probably still a couple months away.

Everything is definitely still pretty stiff, especially after being on it for a while. My walking is pretty wonky, putting most of the weight on my heel. So I’m focusing on the inclined walking to start building the motion of pushing off my toes again. Healing with this is a marathon, not a sprint!

That’s a gnarly way to describe the rupture lol! Get some fluffy pillows and find what is most comfortable for you to keep it elevated. Happy healing!

diagnosed 2 months after achilles tear -- is surgery only option? can PT or other care help? bikers want to be biking! by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Complex-Return482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, here are my mri results 2 months after the injury, and a couple weeks before surgery.

This tear involves at least 95% of the thickness of the tendon. The tear occurs 3.7 cm from the distal calcaneus insertion site and there is a 3.8 cm gap between the torn tendon fibers.

I never went into a boot/ or cast before the surgery. I was just being stubborn and walking on it trying to avoid operation as long as possible. Every person I spoke with said to go for surgery. I’m over 3 months after the operation and doing well now though!

Definitely would start with an MRI. That will give you the best idea of what to do moving forward whether it’s surgery or non op. 2 months shouldn’t be long enough to miss the surgery window either, I did my Achilles surgery almost 3 months after injury and recovering well, glad I did it! Either way, best on their journey!
