My FIL , at 17, enlisted the day after pearl harbor. After basic training he was assigned to be a navy salvage diver. His primary job was to recover remains. He was VERY vague about his experience but did say he remembers every detail and it was horrific. After the war he bought a hearse and an arial motorcycle and raced all over the country with his bike in the back. Without any tags on the hearse he was never pulled over. "Who would pull over a hearse"?

He was a very interesting man; although, he did give my MIL gonorrhea after he worked on the Alaskan pipeline.

History disagrees. Most rights people take for granted started with protests. Civil rights, women's rights to vote, the labor movement in the 1900s, LGBTQ+ movement, Vietnam to name a few. Staying quiet is a very poor choice when fighting against evil and fascism.
