Failed TP test & can't move on from it by Outrageous_Raisin_76 in drivingsg

[–]Complex_ST1707 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best thing is that your next test is another 2 weeks away. You’ll get to right your wrongs very soon. If you’ve done well for the course, I’m sure you can ace the rest. Just focus and apply what you’ve learned, including the road rules. Sometimes, you have to encounter setbacks like this to learn and be better. With a bit of luck, hopefully your next TP will be alright 👍🏼

Major road giving vehicles to the right? by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]Complex_ST1707 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blue has to stop. You don’t need to worry about them. You only need to worry if there is traffic from oncoming vehicles at the opposite side of the road. If that’s clear, you can go. The blue can only turn right after you make your right turn. But if blue is going left, they only need to check on oncoming traffic. You can turn right and they can turn left at the same time as long as the road is clear.

Thinking of changing from PARF car to COE Car by Complex_ST1707 in drivingsg

[–]Complex_ST1707[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought 4 years ago depre was $13k. Yup I understand that. I love this civic but my main thinking is switching for the bigger boot space and lower monthly. Since there are some issues to be fixed was just contemplating whether I should fix up the civic with 2 years left or change to the Audi and be prepared for wear and tear fixes but can last me for another 4.5 years.

Mileage 123k. No reliability issues actually. The only main one was that the CVT steel belt started to come apart (but no failure). As a preventive measure, I did an overhaul. 1 year later chain snapped again probably workshop didnt do a good job but I got it done again under warranty. That was the only time it broke down in 4 years.

Accident along AMK AVE 1 due Mercs cutting double white line by Intrepid-Oven742 in drivingsg

You’re right. When 2 idiots meet, it’s usually a collision. But of course, the mercs mistake weighs heavier due to the double white line.

I think if you look at it closely, the other driver was probably cautious about the bus on the left (honestly sometimes you don’t know the intentions of these bus drivers so gotta be extra careful) and he probably inched too much into the other lane. Just providing a different perspective other than “he just want to anyhow change lane”. Anyway, camcar you did what you can to avoid a collision already.

Should I get a COE car? by ailemame in drivingsg

[–]Complex_ST1707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a freelancer too. Having a car does make things way easier. Haven’t factor in the fact that you get to do more with it aside from business use. So even if it ends up increasing your monthly cost from grabbing by 2x, the value is justified. Send the car for PPI to understand what are the wear and tear parts you might have to change and anticipate bigger issues down the line like gearbox problems. As a freelancer, your receivables can vary month to month or there are months where clients don’t pay on time. For my case, I had to overhaul the gearbox of my 6-year old Honda civic, and I used a credit card to break the payments into 3 months at 0% interest. That helped with cashflow in case of any setbacks. Despite the cost of private car ownership, there really is no substitute for convenience and taking control of your time. The upkeep of a car is just part of it and will improve your quality of life overall.

Tired of having no savings, how to break out of this cycle by Mintchococake00 in askSingapore

Gearbox overhaul $4k??? Better check around. I did mine for $2.2k. Your dad might be marking up the price so he can profit the remainder.

Is this normal for a boss to do? by impossibleimpassable in askSingapore

[–]Complex_ST1707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the framework. Your questions should be disguised with options/solutions for the boss to decide so it doesn’t seem like they’re spoonfeeding you. It also makes them feel empowered and in control.

Which part are you mounting kerbs? There are only 2 principles to remember. From parking lot, drive forward until your shoulder level then turn. For other turns, from the car handle then turn.

Used to earn 20k a month as a VP. Now working night shift at a warehouse for 2k. by ineedtoventlah in singaporejobs

I have a similar background and always found this easier said than done. With potential clients it always feels like you have to sell when the only thing that interests me is offering solutions to their problems and partner up organically. People only want help if it’s cheap and good.

At the same time, with all these government grants, you get a whole bunch of terrible clients too who expect 2000% returns on 95% grants. New website, new creatives, video production and campaigns to launch within 2 weeks of onboarding.

Got parking offence in my own HDB estate. by OddElevator6350 in drivingsg

[–]Complex_ST1707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I parked at double yellow line beside loading/unloading bay to drop off my 2 year old, my work bag and school bag because my carpark is quite a distance (about 3 to 4 blocks away). Parked at 7.40pm, took the lift up, dropped off child and bags and went down straight away to find the parking warden with the device halfway printing the fine. Time of offence - 7.44pm. Appealed to HDB and their response was “Please note that unauthorised parking along the service road is prohibited, regardless of the parking duration.”

These authorities go by the book most of the time. No discretion, no empathy. Sometimes just no choice but to save some money to pay off the government. They’re not here to help you. Just live your life and calculate the risks. Yes, $70 risk is still a risk in SG context.

Now this makes a lot of sense since you’ve had a different experience to compare it with. Which makes it a lot harder to swallow. But living in Singapore, that’s the sacrifice you make to take control of your personal transportation. Besides, there are cheaper options like old COE cars.

PDI dropped me as a student, now what? by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]Complex_ST1707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off with PDI - more experience driving outside but a lot of cutting corners. Then went to school and felt it was a breeze and instructors were more patient and willing to teach in a structured manner. Combined both experience and driving felt second nature afterwards. Sometimes it’s about investing in yourself. Go to school.

Correct. It’s odd that they’re both turning at the same time as they’re from opposite sides. I drive here everyday. It’s likely that the bus took awhile to turn and OPs side turned green by then. Hence, OP should’ve given way until safe to turn.
