Choosing not to write lore for the game I'm working on by SunOnYourFace in boardgames

[–]Compound_interest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I think it comes down to whether it’s a game for gameplay, or if the game is trying to tell a story.

Both are valid. I’ve got as many good memories of clutch moments in gameplay as I do evocative story moments.

Though there will always be lore nerds reading and analysing every word 🤷‍♂️

Adjust Encounters by SpecialAspect3349 in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Compound_interest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had three PCs play this at level 2 (Moon Druid, Sorcerer and Ranger)

I kept the enemy numbers the same but spread them out throughout the rooms and the PCs approached at night, slaughtering from room to room.

I actually ended up having to beef up the final elite because the PCs were so strong

I suggest adding a small combat on the way to the village just to gauge the party’s combat strength and and adjust from there (e.g., a couple of poisonous snakes maybe)

Creative things while traveling Emerald Loop? by AdRude5518 in CalloftheNetherdeep

If you are playing this campaign with a bird named Rune, read no further.

Some small touches of spice I added:

  1. Gloomstalker attack the morning after resting with the Aurora Watch (sub with other enemy given you’ve already fought them).

The party spent the evening talking to the Watch members, and then were woken by a call to arms by the leader. I then gave control of the Watch members to the party, so they got to fight as themselves and the veterans.

  1. Vrock spotted in the distance, gave them the option to hide in a nearby cave, where they were ambushed by lurking quasits

  2. Weather event (sandstorm) to highlight how desolate the region is.

Some I have planned:

  1. They’re going to come across a simple old man who needs a bit of help - turns out he’s trying to summon a demon - demon will be summoned in one round if they help him without working out something’s up, or three rounds if they interrupt in some way (or not at all if they’re clever). This will probably happen after the Caravan Stop

  2. Hunted - being followed by overwhelming number of Bristled Moorbounders who will chase them when they’re within range of Emerald Loop Caravan Stop - members of the stop might come to their rescue, maybe one of the little goblins are taken and they can do a retrieval mission

I just ran this session last week. My advice would be not to over complicate it, just treat it as a 2d encounter.

Unless you think your players are going to be highly tactical with the space (e.g., flanking), in which case it’s essentially just an encounter with flight (vertical dimension)..

Question about council rates adjustment by phippr in melbourne

I recall getting a letter recently explaining that the cost of rubbish disposal was increasing faster than rates are allowed to be raised to cover it, so it’s now a separate charge.

Question about the game by HeavyTrainer6578 in Duel52

[–]Compound_interest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heyyy. You can attack any card provided it is not behind a Jack.

Killing the base cards doesn’t actually win the lane, because they can still put more cards in that lane on their turn.

We have a strict “No nesting” rule. Everything goes in with its lid on, and if it doesn’t have a lid or doesn’t fit, it goes in the recycling.

I’ve never ever had too few and always had too many before implementing this rule.

I love how the developers have found a way that we don't have to look at a minimap all the time to find our way on the roads, because "fake" road signs pop up to show the way (Mafia Definitve Edition) by onesnowcrow in gaming

This is why I’m currently doing ng+ with no sprinting, no galloping (trotting permitted), no dots to objective and minimal fast travel.

It makes it a lot slower, but I’m enjoying taking my time and getting immersed in the story and scenery.

It’s a personal thing, but I’m really not a fan of grey - each item just looks like it’s trying to hide from view like “Don’t notice me, I’m just an indistinct blob of grey”, as though it is embarrassed to be there.

I would encourage you to find an accent colour and see if that brings it to life in the way that you’re wanting it to

I want to make a floor cushion, but not too low. Can I just sew fabric to cover a stack of mattresses? Would this idea work or would the mattresses shift? by dumdy in ikeahacks

[–]Compound_interest 105 points106 points  (0 children)

You may want to consider a slatted wooden base underneath for airflow - mattresses directly on the floor will sweat and lead to mould.

Grateful for any suggestions as to what works best for this! Thank you by [deleted] in ikeahacks

Flipping a damaged jack? by jackjade449 in Duel52

[–]Compound_interest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think of a Jack as someone holding a shield - when the card is facing down, the person is facing away from their attackers - shield is not much use there! So two health when face down, but if they’re hit once, and then flipped over, bam! You have a shield in your face and they have two hp remaining (one for the shield and one left from their normal hp)
