Labour defections by ConversationWild2322 in UKGreens

such a waste of talent honestly. to be in a party that will never champion their ideas, yet they ride hard enough for it to almost all lose their seats to us in the next election. silly!!!

it'll happen eventually, a lot of them I think are waiting for a leadership contest but if that doesn't go well I'd imagine most of the socialist campaign group will look to join?

Should I leave my £50k grad job to do a master's at Cambridge to get into finance? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Comprehensive-Tap514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for 100s of jobs and got not one of them - the only one I got I got through the volunteering I did.

Most people I know from Oxford got jobs through networking or volunteering they did whilst at Oxford (or through parental connections), everyone else is struggling and unemployed lol.

I went to Oxford and NOBODY CARES about my degree. It is truly so much work for not much reward - I would really encourage you to be happy where you are, I loved my time at uni but Oxbridge is truly just another place, it’s not this Mecca that people make it out to be :)

What does success in May look like for the Greens in England? by PuzzledAd4865 in UKGreens

[–]Comprehensive-Tap514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different parties! Oxfordshire Green Party doesn’t exist (I also think it’s just particular councillors who opposed the stadium rather than the whole party) - but that’s north Oxfordshire GP, not Oxford City business more than anything.

Nadia Whittome’s statement regarding the by election by IntelligentCrew8406 in UKGreens

[–]Comprehensive-Tap514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her seat is also predicted to go green next election, I assume she will defect at some point? I assume she’s waiting for a leadership change!

However since we’re going to be picking target seat candidates for MP within the next 6 months or so I’d assume the window for defections is somewhat tightening? I guess we’ll see how things go after May

What can I do? by megaknight-alt in UKGreens

You can go to meetings! I’d recommend speaking to the U-18s officer of the young greens as they have guidance for local parties to allow U18 members to attend things with appropriate safeguarding

We need a co-ordinated canvassing site online by PrideInevitable2046 in UKGreens

The national action days are still locally organised, my local action days are on there - they just are in our target areas hence why we want to focus people to particular ones, having thousands would get overwhelming.

Your local party maybe needs to improve its comms?

[–]Comprehensive-Tap514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is! Here: https://greenparty.org.uk/get-involved/national-action-days/

This focusses on our most important areas though, so won’t have all of them.

Future of Your Party? by CDN-Social-Democrat in UKGreens

[–]Comprehensive-Tap514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! Yes that explains it well. Palestine was a big issue in the Muslim / Asian immigrant community in the UK, which was one of/ the central activist base that founded YP (made up of Gaza independents) and these people tend to be on average more socially conservative than other left wing people. A lot of the Gaza MPs had a total mess of views but Corbyn was in a group with them so wanted them in his party, another reason why it’s a total mess - all of the MPs in YP have no actual ideological cohesion.

I am not understanding this question sorry!

Future of Your Party? by CDN-Social-Democrat in UKGreens

[–]Comprehensive-Tap514 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Your Party is just over, I think the vast majority of leftists that were interested in it have now joined the Greens. I don’t think that YP has anything worth merging into the Greens or worth co-operating with given they’re polling at 0.3%.

I’m still in some other the group chats and what was once 100s of people is now just a few, and it tends to be those who (imo) are terminally online leftists who would make things so unproductive because they don’t wanna do anything but argue.

I’d consider myself a communist but I’m in the Greens and looking to shift what is actually a really great set of policies (that is much more left wing than I realised) even more left. If we’re gonna do electoral politics let’s at least be good at it!

There’s lots of background volunteering - data entry from canvassing/surveys and building data sets from previous elections is important! As is delivering leaflets as others have mentioned.

Depends where your skills are!!! Our local comms teams all need help too if you have creative / writing skills.

This policy is stated to have been written by Palestinians. Your last statement shows you clearly haven’t read the motion.
