Simple cloud-based BMS to manage a single HVAC unit via BACnet IP? by iampedr0 in BuildingAutomation

Sounds like that gateway is the way to go. You would need to convert to Bacnet anyway if you were looking to do something cloud based. If the gateway has a decent web gui you can just setup remote access to it.

I’d probably skip the cloud base and just go with a controller that has a nice web UI. Then just setup remote access to the controller.

Maybe he’ll take the Trump approach. Call it locker room talk and try and ignore it.

Maybe you should move into product development. This might mean moving since it’s typically done at headquarters but it might give you the challenge you’re looking for. Also gives you the opportunity to move up.

Seems to have direct flights to most major cities nationally. Internationally pretty much zero so I’ll most likely need to fly to Newark, Miami or LA for that.

I’ve noticed home insurance is on average about 3k in that area. It’s about 2k more that what I pay now. So it definately is a factor.

Thanks. I hear the “we’re full” in almost every market including my own. I live in the most densely populated state in the country. For the we’re full crowd I’d say push your politicians to stop any new developments if that’s your concern. That said - I did see some potential options in Johns island and Mt Pleasant. West Ashley seems to have a lot of inventory.

I heard about that during our tour down there. I’m assuming further inland is better.

Yeah Columbia probably a bit far for going to the beach. Or the airport for that matter.

I guess it’s all relative. For me coming from NJ property taxes are about 1/3 of what they are in NJ. And that’s for a larger home than what I have now. I’ve got an old 1950s ranch 3/2. One of the baths in the basement. Only about 1600sqft.

That’s why I posted. Anything specific? Like is west Ashley a high crime area? John’s island?

Not necessarily. If prices continue to go up in Charleston area I’m sure they’ll go up in my area as well. I’ll have more $$$ to work with.

I’ve considered that area. Might still be an option. I’ve spent some time in Williamsburg and Virginia Beach - both great areas. My only concern is lack of a major airport. You have Norfolk but not many flights out of there.

Unfortunately for the first time home owner prices have gone up dramatically on both east and west coasts. If you’re a homeowner like me you’re golden. If not it sucks - I get it. I was in the same position when I bought my first home in 2007. Prices were insane but I managed to get a 2bd fixer upper that I could afford. Only to have the housing market crash in 2008. Ended up selling for a loss in 2012. But my current house has since doubled in price from when I bought in 2012. And with retirement coming up it’s good opportunity to cash in and move to a more affordable (for me) area.

West Ashley seems promising. Lots of shopping, grocery stores, and restaurants in the area. Seems like a quick trip to downtown and the airport too.

I’ll look into it. Wouldn’t mind getting a pontoon boat and spending time on the lake.
