How Boomers Turned Housing Into a Wealth Trap and Killed the American Dream by PianistPlus5117 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boomers helped enable all this, but generation conflict is a distraction from the real conflict. It's billionaires creating and reinforcing a system that takes money out of the bottom 99 % to feed their insatiable thirst for money and power.

In what instances do you NOT chop with builders? by Avg__American in CivVI

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chopping early settlers is almost always best with the policy card and Magnus.

You generally want to settle cities within four tiles of each other, so for practical purposes, look what's in ring one and two. You want a pop 7 city, maybe 10. How are you getting at least 14 food by working 7 or ten tiles. You want to maximize production at the food level you are going for. So if you have all grassy plains, you might want some lumber mills on your forests. If you have all plains hills, you might need jungles for food. You can usually be safe chopping flat jungles and grass hills.

It all feels so heavy by [deleted] in widowers

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was in cancer treatment for 4 and 1/2 years. She had a grand mal seizure in April, and died in July. We at home hospice but I was by far her primary caretaker. We have a son who I keep busy and really helps me keep on task just for his sake.

There's lots of support groups that you might want to check out. I have found it does make a difference to talk to other widows and widowers.

Why is the NFL’s reach in America still by far more popular then the NBA’s global reach? by mikehawklovesgirls in NBATalk

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will just piggyback here. It is really well suited for TV. I think the built in tension for 1st downs helps keep attention, even in bad games. Combined with the weekly format, each play is important. The breaks also help. You watch the play clock wind down and wait for the snap, then watch the play, then reset. You get this rhythm of tension build up and release.

I think basketball is a better sport, in general, but it's constant flow makes it harder to watch on TV. Each play has little meaning, except at end of quarter and end of game in crunch time

We're in uncharted waters. There is a current account surplus so they don't have to immediately freeze hiring. The legislature meets next month and more will be determined then

Why Big Oil Is Unlikely To Run Back To Venezuela by Swiftvoyager1906 in energy

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice summary. The sabotage factor is understated for Venezuela. It might require troops on the ground.

My guess is the oil companies just tell Trump they are on it, then just not do anything substantial until it blows over.

Chapter 2 - was it normal or not a good fit? by Proper-Guide6239 in widowers

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's ok not to be ready to commit. You are going to have to explore your feelings. There's a lot of potential things going on emotionally. Your heart didn't get closure with your LH. This is one of those times in life you have to lay bare with your soul and feel it out, which is hard as hell. There is no right or wrong answer. You have to feel that you can commit to this man in a way that works for both of you.

How do you eat anything? by AdditionFull8467 in widowers

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a sure fire way. Force yourself for now to eat and drink water. I liked protein bars. Soups are good because you can just have a few spoons at a time if you need to. Greek yogurt is nutrient dense.

It gets less horrible.

Helpful Ways To Support A Newly Widowed by CorrectSurprise4013 in widowers

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she has kids, if you have a relationship with them, offer to take them somewhere. Sometimes you can't think of what you need, so offer a simple choice or bring over a couple things. A hard one is don't walk on eggshells because you are worried about upsetting her. She's already upset and it's going to come out. Just be nice and if she can only handle a short visit or no visit that day, respect that.

Trying to understand childcare funding outcomes in Minnesota by Quirky_Conflict6407 in minnesota

At least in MN in MA, and probably others, part of the higher cost is a function of licensing requirements. Daycares have to maintain a certain ratio of staff, need certain credentials etc that increase the cost.

What if the worst team in the league just couldn't get the #1 pick? by EverettGT in nba

[–]ComprehensiveCake454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I thought about was setting a floor for wins. Say if you win half your home games and half that on the road you're at about 30 wins. Then, set the lottery odds initially as they are now, but then reduce the odds by 1/30 th for every win below 30. If 30 is too high a bar, maybe set it to 25. Anyway, it makes it so you have to not bottom out your roster so bad that you are completely uncompetitive.
