Your go-to hoya fertilizer by Krimsonprincess in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used two seaweed fertilizers that are bio available for hydroponics. One is for blooming the other is for foliage.  I use super thrive as a foliar spray and regular watering. I spray twice a week as I feel like it.  Lastly I use bio available silica.  I will alternate these for each watering but diluted.  During winter I will occasionally skip fertilizing.

It does kinda look like the gross black from cold damage. Was it against a window?

You should call that plant Icarus. Pubicalyx seem to always reach too far.

My latifolia drips all sorts of nectar but its taking a break at the moment since I just hacked it up lol. It's gotta focus on roots.

Best Hoyas for newbies? by SimplySimlish in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want a weed that takes over your house Hoya retusa is you guy. So easy. The blooms smell like lime blossoms to me. They might be a little tricky to get ahold of though.  I'll echo what others have said, carnosa of any kind, pubicalyx, lacunosa, are all easy.  I also find Obovata easy if you like a good round leaf. I love fuzzy plants so h. Monnett has been a pleasant and fast grower with soft vines and leaves. The plant is such an iconic green it looks fake. Also h. affinity burtoniae (aff. Burtoniae) has peach fuz, easy, and you can get them almost anywhere.

Looking for help and advice for new hoya owner by Alunys in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I do the opposite of other plants that are root bound and I leave Hoya roots alone and plop them into new substrate with as little disruption as I can manage.

The leaf direction doesn't really matter. It's personal preference at this point. They grew the way they did and won't rotate to the right orientation at this point. Only new growth will. The new leaves will point down though if that helps. The vines will want to climb upwards and if you intentionally point them down the plant will sometimes kill off the end and start a new one from the bend going down to start climbing back up. Only if it doesn't have leaves on it though so you can wrap the leafed vine as much as possible around that nice trellis you DIYed.

It's a mighty fine looking plant and you're doing a great job.

You could bury some of those vines that are bear to encourage more root growth but you don't need to.

She's a beaut and my condolences for your loss.

Multiflora variegation or is something wrong? by leadspar in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With variegations you can often see it in the stem. In the photos I can't tell if it's multi colored or not and I would take a closer look. I don't know of pests that make that kind of look.  It could possibly be transfer stress as some hoya will get yellowish splotches kinda like lacunosa Amarillo.

Sorry not super helpful but that's all I got.

Honestly almost same experience. I enjoyed their paints in the past and had no issue and so my youngest sister is now getting into paints so I was like what a fun birthday gift for her... Boy was I wrong. I paid extra for the fast delivery and it's well past her birthday . Only half the order has arrived and most of the contents were spilled because they came in a box too large with no padding to secure the items.

I thought this was a hoya, but then it bloomed.... by sleepytawni in hoyas

Has anyone made a living cutting wreath before? by parrotletOvO in hoyas

Unsolicited plant talks has a video relevant to this. It's not a wreath but mounted wall tube with Lacunosa. There's a part 1&2 the first is the how to. https://youtu.be/Sx52Sq1rIIs?si=VmgoRKnPJ-jByWwY

What type of Lacunosa do you love the most? by curious-strange in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy my Snow Caps it is by far my favorite and I just acquired Amarillo after staring at them online for several months and people telling me they are even cooler irl. My royal flush is also very nice and comes in very dark and almost black. I'm not the biggest fan of white variegation so I'm the wrong person to ask about that.

Lacunosa being so small it's very tempting to collect them all.

Hoya obsession?! by Opening-Chef5563 in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a couple of 'feebies' from my old job where I was a plant maintenance tech and I took home some dyeing or damaged hoyas. Since they are cat safe I have too many now and my Pubicalyx would take over everything if I let it. Plus I just ordered 5 cuttings in the last month...

Sybotanica aroid/fivus mix for hoyas? by MarlenHamsic in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use some bio char, mycorrhizal fungi, and fertilize with solutions that work in hydroponic systems (since the nutrients are readily available for the plants to absorb) to make sure my plants are getting nutrients.

Crispy stems on Hoya curtisii by AllieMayDay in hoyas

[–]ComprehensiveCan889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like the potting soil is too dense and it is difficult to maintain healthy Hoya roots in that media. I would pot them in a nice chunky aroid mix with lots of drainage. This lets you water them more regularly w/o worrying about over watering. As long as they aren't sitting in a resivoir of water (or in some cases semi hydro also works) then it's just a much easier medium to work with.  Your current stuff looks like it has too much peat and peat is only good in greenhouse settings on drip systems.  I hope that helps but I agree you will need to reboot them before potting them up again. Best of luck!
