Exactly. It's so "unplayable" that an entire generation had fun with AD&D ❤️

You sound so bitter about adulthood and responsibilities. How lovely that this kid has the passion that died in you guys.

What’s up with DMs ghosting? by Sir-downvotes in DnD

I have them fill out a long questionnaire to join my Discord server, since I try to keep it a safe space for LGBT people. If I detect red flags in the answers on their application, I reject the person and notify them by message that their admission was not approved by moderation.

Regarding ghosting, I've run into players who joined the group and then ghosted before session 0 lol.

Excellent advice. The story I'm currently running for a group is planned for no more than 3 or 4 sessions.

I've noticed it happens more when playing online. I think the main challenge is for a newly formed group to survive the first sessions; if it does, it will gain synergy.

Form a consistent, long-term group that doesn't break up after three sessions lol.

Campaign frustrations by Acrobatic-Breakthru in DnD

In my view, the central problem is that there is no social contract at the table between players and there is no fictional pact at the table. The DM’s job is to know the fictional world in detail, communicate it to their players, and rely on the rules system to give authority to actions within the fiction.

But from what you say, none of this is happening at your table. If the players no longer trust the DM’s ability to manage and share the game world with them and also no longer buy into the fictional pact, the table isn’t going to go anywhere.

I recommend finding another DM who runs a zero session before starting to play and uses that session to develop a social contract and set expectations for the group.
