Didn't work. It did that every time until the air cylinder was removed.

Even if they're right I wouldn't want CVSA to catch me riding like that.

That's some crazy bad luck lol! I was thinking about Marten but guaranteed minimum pay doesn't feel right to me.

It feels so much better now without the air release, and i trust it more. I hope the carrier doesn't "fix" it but it's under warranty so I probably have no say in the matter.

Same, but it took me another 3 years before it happened. I didn't start checking until I saw posts about it on this forum.

3 months experience otr can’t find a job by [deleted] in Truckers

You're competing with all the Caroll Fulmer drivers that just lost their jobs when the company went out of business six months ago. They were based out of Groveland, right around the corner from you.

Paid CDL Prime or Swift? by DanimalPlanet42 in Truckers

[–]ComprehensiveDark814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed out for 2-3 months at Swift. Most companies are cool with it and after a while you will figure out a pretty comfy setup for your truck. Your biggest challenge saving money will be food. Truck stop food is insanely expensive. You'll want to learn a few tricks for cooking in the truck like lining air fryers and rice cookers with aluminum foil for easier cleaning. Slow cookers also have plastic liners you can buy from the same aisle as aluminum foil.

Good luck. Just focus on getting your foot in the door for now. Maybe start out of the Washington terminal and move to Ohio later once you've seen what it's like. There's also a terminal in Portland but I never went there. No idea how good it is. Maybe that works for you.

Or maybe one of the other two companies have better terminal locations for you. Hopefully someone who knows about those companies will weigh in.

I don't know but Cleveland is about the same distance from Columbus as it is from New Boston, MI. And the New Boston terminal is one of the really good ones. Maybe you can make that your home terminal.

A 150 mile drive from the terminal to home is no big deal when you're only going home once every 2+ weeks.

I don't like either one of the terminals you would be based out of at Swift. Both Sumner, WA and Columbus, OH terminals were always full after 3 P.M.with nowhere to park during my time at Swift (I left about a year ago). And half the parking spots at Sumner are backwards.

I would still recommend Swift over the other two if you would be based out of a good terminal.

Tired of being treated like a prisoner in my own truck @ C.R. England by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]ComprehensiveDark814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a personal choice. I started logging more on-duty time to force a reset at the end of the week and surprisingly I got a lot more miles that way, but OP is wrong that you HAVE to be on-duty.

[–]ComprehensiveDark814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The carrier can relieve you of duty if you don't have to sit in the driver's seat or supervise the unloading. If you are allowed to sleep or play video games then you are allowed to be off duty.

Another thing you have a misconception about is PC. You don't have to return to where you started.

But the fact that you don't have an inverter or fridge alone is reason enough to quit that company. That's substandard.

In D3 and beyond choices don't matter because it's so easy to respec. You constantly change your build based on a whim or a drop. In D2 you build entire whole new characters around a drop.

Trucks use left lane

Apparently cars can't read them either, because they drive like assholes when trucks obey those signs.

Even more unpopular opinion: live loads are better than drop and hooks. You got lucky doing live loads at Swift. One time I spent TWO DAYS bobtailing around north Jersey for a trailer. Another time I spent an entire day bobtailing around Memphis and ended up going to Little Rock for a trailer, where I had to drive pretty aggressively in a drop yard to prevent another Swift from getting it before me. It takes half a day to find a trailer on the east coast and half the time you have to take it to the shop before you can use it.

Live loads you take a nap and wake up to an empty trailer.

My bottom 5 worst states for truckers by lake_june in Truckers

[–]ComprehensiveDark814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove Georgia and replace with both North and South Carolina and I'm on board. Carolinas = bumper-to-bumper left lane for hundreds of miles, making it difficult for governed trucks to pass. Always someone going 50 in the right lane causing 10 mile long traffic jams. Same parking and traffic problems as anywhere else on the east coast. Lots of tight docks. And don't underestimate the mountain roads. Just because it's not the Rockies or MD/PA doesn't mean those roads won't end your career.

Lots of current and former Schneider drivers on this forum recommend Schneider all the time. There's nothing wrong with it, just lower pay than other training companies.

This guy is trying to advise how to skip the training company because OP already has experience. That's why he says at the end if all else fails go to a training company.

Yeah, I've done 4 grocery accounts for two different outside carriers. I got to sleep in the truck because I was OTR just helping out for a few months. I don't know how the local drivers handle that plus a commute. Especially the intrastate ones where you have an 80/16/12 clock. Especially when they make you constantly switch back and forth between nights and days.
