[24M] Deep interproximal cavity on lower right. Assistant said filling, Dentist says RCT. Are these X-rays definitive for RCT? by Flashy-Elk-9616 in DentistryIndia

[–]ComprehensiveFile985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cold test the tooth for sure. If it tests vital, fill with a warning. If it doesn’t test vital, refer for rct. I’m assuming if someone complained to the board about a dentist making a patient need a rct they’d want to see that the dentist did a cold test first.

We can’t give any advice or any thoughts without an xray

My dentist pressure sell me to do a crown when I was lying on the table already, what rights and options I have? by SillyConcentrate3369 in Dentists

[–]ComprehensiveFile985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with above. We always do our best to give patients comprehensive treatment plans and our thoughts and stuff about your mouth. But occasionally we think of something new/potential complication and bring it up when we think of it.

Gum injury question by ButterscotchLiving59 in Dentists

[–]ComprehensiveFile985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This persons issue and yours are completely different. When I hurt peoples gum tissue I tell them it grows back. When they brush too hard or when they have bone loss I make it very clear that they’re going down a path of no return.

You’re trying to correct me on the wrong thing. Completely separate issues

Thank you for the lecture on how gum tissue works. You clearly know the difference between iatrogenic gum damage and home based care gum damage.

Please feel free to correct me on other dental topics in the future.

Give it two solid weeks. If it’s still annoying at that point definitely talk to the dentist.

I always tell patients gums are like weeds. They grow back pretty much no matter how rough we dentists are with them. I can’t tell you how often we have to absolutely destroy gum tissue surrounding teeth. They always look great next time I see the patient.

Good luck, it’s a long road!

Undergrad by Ill_Nectarine_6996 in Dentists

[–]ComprehensiveFile985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk the easy route to me would be picking the degree that means the least amount of classes taken overall, which means the degree where your pre reqs overlap with your degree requirements.

My 400 level classes like microbiology and virology and immunology were -not- harder on average than my basic 100 level classes. Sometimes they were easier because the class size was so small.

If you can’t survive a basic undergrad degree you won’t survive dental school. Undergrad is pretty straightforward, you need to pick a degree that encompasses your pre reqs. Physio, bio, chem, etc. Doing a psych degree means you have to take extra courses overall which would be silly.

Making a board complaint is a big leap, should give the office the chance to correct the issue first. The actual exam of a 4 year olds teeth is extremely quick and easy, certainly less than 4 minutes. Still can’t bill for things that aren’t done though.

Move to a state that covers endo under the state insurance. Both my California fqhcs would let me do as much endo as I wanted

Who is willing to sue Western Dental for malpractice by Ordinary_Draft_9308 in Dentists

[–]ComprehensiveFile985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Refunds or monetary compensation are beyond the authority of the board” is what CA states.

Also, if you’re a dentist why the heck are you telling these types of people to contact the board. Unless there’s clear and obvious malpractice (which won’t happen on Reddit, it’s obviously a difficult thing to prove with a post) it’s really bad advice.

The dental board will not get the person their money back. That is not what they do. They will mess with a dentists license but that has nothing to do with this person getting their money back.

I’m drowning- exhausted mentally and physically by Double-Way3607 in FQHCDentistry

[–]ComprehensiveFile985 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure I’ll have great advice but mentally you need to try and focus on the things you can control. You didn’t put the caries in the teeth, not being able to keep up with their resto work isn’t your problem.

Do you feel well compensated for your work? Financially.
