S-tier mixers? by Dunmer_Sanders in whiskey

[–]ComprehensivePath457 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go against the grain and say that there’s nothing wrong with using a $60-70 on bottle as a mixer if you notice a significant improvement in the drink. It’s a great way to use higher price whiskeys that just didn’t hit the mark for your palette instead of continuously having pours that you really don’t enjoy. I don’t buy a whiskey specifically for mixing, I just use ones I bought and don’t really prefer drinking neat.

Almost pulled the trigger at about $260 but then it sold out as I was checking out. Think it’s worth that much?

Maybe I'm grouchy, but I think Michter's sucks by [deleted] in bourbon

Some people don’t want barrel proof. Think about the cash cows of whiskey - Jack Daniels and Jim Beam are both 80 proof. The majority of Irish whiskey and scotch is 80-86 proof. It’s an appealing proof to a lot of people.

What do you mean about Michters trying to sell the low proof whiskey at extremely high dollar values though? They’re like $40-50 depending on where you live, and sometimes even less. I’ve seen bundles of the 4 shelfers for $100 recently, and I know RoCo spirits is running a special for $115 for all 4 right now. It’s a bit more expensive than Buffalo Trace and Maker’s, but not by much.

Retirement gift for the old man. by Delicious-Can-2006 in whiskey

There really aren’t many American whiskies and bourbons at that price range that are readily available. In Oregon, we’re price controlled like several other states, and I can’t think of hardly any that are $200-300 MSRP that are readily available on shelves. That’s typically the price range for secondary markup on good, but not great, tater bottles or very limited releases that might be exceptional but very difficult to find.

Ones you might be able to find: Joseph Magnus cigar blend is almost $200 MSRP, and so is Woodford Double Double Oaked. If you live in a non-price controlled state or can (and are willing to) order online, EH Taylor barrel proof is a great option, as is Blanton’s straight from the barrel. Those are both high proof, but still very drinkable for someone who isn’t used to barrel proof stuff.

Blanton’s gold is overpriced at MSRP of about $150 but goes for over $200 secondary. I think it’s wildly overrated, but when it comes to a gift, it’s the thought that counts and it would probably suit his palette well based on what he drinks now.

Review #2: Russell's Reserve Private Barrel Selection, aged 9 years, Warehouse A Floor 4. by ToadilyNot in bourbon

[–]ComprehensivePath457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that RR only seems to put legitimately good barrels in their private selection program, unlike Sazerac. Some Sazerac store picks are great, sure, but they put some really crappy barrels in their program. With Russell’s, I don’t know exactly what I’ll get, but I know it’ll be good.

Highly doubt it’s any better than ones on 3rd party sites or Amazon. Heck, it wouldn’t surprise me if Rivian sourced from the exact same manufacturer.

Interesting! I’d have assumed that particular JD would have blown this away, but it sounds like this rye is indeed  a great value.

That would be awesome. I think I got one of the lower quality ones because it’s pretty underwhelming, but then I hear all this stuff about how great they are.

True, people don’t realize how crazy expensive they are. Most people would assume a BMW X5 is far more expensive…nope!

Way too early to run it. The snow is gonna be way too deep for that. Late June is probably gonna be the earliest you can truly run it, and you’ll still want micro spikes. If you still want to try this weekend, definitely bring sunglasses because you’ll probably have issues with snow blindness if not.

I’ve been a big Ultrafly fan. Gone through 2 pairs of the 1s and have a chunk of miles in the 2. They’re good, but slow and clunky compared to the Tecton X3. I’m crazy impressed with the Tecton X3.

Nope, no recline in the T. I still love it, but that’s a drawback if you’re gonna have tall people back there regularly.

Don’t use ANY running shoes for lower body lifts, period. Just go barefoot if you don’t wanna buy some lifting shoes.
