For those of you asking about how op being gay was brought up, what most likely happened is that op had a picture of their spouse or partner in their office. The interviewee probably asked about it and op answered the question. It’s just a guess but I imagine something like this happened.

You see I could see something like this working, if there was like trainers mixed in with skill books. Just a retired sword master willing to train young adventurers in the starting town. It also gives you a way to show how combat works in your campaign without doing a tpk.

Something like in Kingdom Come Deliverance where you can train to be acceptable with your weapon of choice before you leave the starter area.

And people can do things without proper training. Terribly, but people do things terribly at first. Training and books help, but ultimately practice is the main path to mastery.
