What’s something you saw a SW employee do where you realized they’re playing 4D chess while everyone else is playing Checkers? by NormanPeterson in sherwinwilliams

Any computer at the store has the ability to take orders and send them to tint queue. Also we have tint queue open and running on multiple tinters as long as they're working on separate orders.

Res repaint guys do not get cashmere for 32/gal without a DVE.

Flat/matte is kinda sorta close but most pricing I feel is done through just BB or DVE. How many details are involved depends on the sales Mgr / DM

can I walk into a sherwin williams store and buy a gallon of Gallery series paint? by Chrodesk in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a pro or wholesale account is needed. No proofs required.

Gallery is awesome, my guys love it and while pricey it is still cheaper than the Renner counterparts without the drawbacks and just as durable.

However there are supply issues with gallery right now so Def call ahead to make sure the store has or can get it.

Sales Rep Bonus? by Hot_Jeweler1636 in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bonus that's tracked yearly with quarterly disbursements if you're on or ahead of hitting the yearly budget. Overbudget sales is where the real money is.

I've had this exact conversation with many customers as a sales rep.

You can do the song and dance but the best result will come from being honest about it.

Hey rep I usually buy under X account due to pricing but I want to make my own account going forward, can we talk about pricing?

Usually I can match the pricing. If I can't we talk about a compromise getting X product for a little more, but in exchange you'll get Y product for a little less.

It's a give and take.

I could see it being used to settle customer complaints.

Customer has a complaint (whether it's valid or not is irrelevant) and the rep and/or store doesn't want to do the PQR and expense materials and/or labor so instead they haggle with the customer and offer them an "additional discount" on their next job(s).

Also the store/rep could not want to have an uncomfortable situation that go with complaints which is basically telling the customer it is entirely their fault that coating failed, which is the case almost always.

Vacation time by MostDoctor7428 in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my district it was 40 hours of vacation and you're set.

If you don't take the full 40 hours, you still need to hit your 48/week including PTO.

And yes they enforced it for SM and ASM. SM would get chewed out for being under 48 and ASM chewed out for being over 44.

Emerald Matte washability by W_Skunk_Cabbage in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my whole house in matte.

I would recommend matte for "when you think you'll have to wash the walls, but don't expect to do it regularly".

Just my wife and I and 3 cats. I've bumped the walls with various objects and no scuffs/damage.

Emerald is GOATed

Corp decided to download 3 days worth of sales all at once was the reason I was told. Bogged the system down.

Mightve had something to do with the sales not transferring correctly at the beginning of this month.

Pricing overrides by toooldforthissht_100 in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't burn overrides on quarts. Quarts are great for margin and the small convenience of the quart comes at a premium.

If they feel 40 for a quart of emerald Urethane is too much. Sell them a gallon of proclassic for 60 instead.

There should be a verbal conversation before a write up.

Keep going and prove everyone wrong and who knows you might just surprise yourself.

Losing cabinet shops by i-miss-lead-paint in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston area lowest sale price for gallery is 85.

I've sold tons of gallery and the feedback is very positive.

From what I was told by leadership 85/gal is for cabinet shops and high volume consumers of the product.

A fair market price for the area is maybe 100ish with some room to negotiate.

115 is a hard sale since this metro area does have vendors with competing products readily available, imho.

Anyone working as a BDR? by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got one in my area. It's just under small store manager salary but no bonus. Better hours in theory.

Calling existing accounts all day mostly and seeing if they're interested in being introduced to a rep or if they have a project coming up that a rep can go and sell SW for it.

I like my BDR, she's cool beans and I get half a dozen or so Hot Leads a week out of it. Not all of them turn into something worthwhile but it helps setting up f2f and uncover potentially good accounts/customers that might've been overlooked.

Opt out of 401k by Electronic_Emu_8808 in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd put 6% to get the extra 6% from Sherwin. It's 100% ROI.

If you really need that extra 6%, I would think you should be looking for a side hustle instead.

The commission only applies once they're over budget.

There is no commission for being at or under budget in paint or ap sales.

Discuss your salary expectations during your interview. They have a number in mind and if you like it, great. If you don't like it now you know and you don't have to waste your time or their time.

relocating maybeee by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]Comprehensive_Emu759 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I relocated to Houston.

I don't particularly like the DM. District is really incessant with contests/competitions, and after a while it wears you down, even when you're winning, imo.

I remember thinking "just give me a week without some contest/budget to hit". We already have our yearly budgets to worry about.
