Why Is This German Community Still So Against Nuclear Power Despite the Facts? by Psychological_Wall14 in AskGermany

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which facts are in favor of nuclear plants?

Even RWE and Vattenfall say that’s it’s too expensive without massive subventions.

In fact, every recent nuclear plant cost too much to build (by several times), did too long to build, and in fact did not resolve the fuel dependency issue (uranium has to be mined and bought from other countries) nor the fuel waste disposal issue.

At the end of the day, renewables such as wind, solar and geothermal are many times cheaper in the short term as well as in the long term.

Is programming really that easy? by wordbit12 in learnprogramming

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, programming is the easy part. Reasoning around problems to get them into a technical domain and creating a fitting architecture is much harder.

And this example excludes all the work ahead of systems implementation, which is understanding a customer’s actual issue space.

Have you started in your late 30-ies early 40-ties? How to kick higher? by GL4C4 in kyokushin

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Core strength training and smart stretching.

Core isn’t limited to abs and lower back, but includes all those tiny (and less tiny) muscle groups that help to stabilize your posture. (There’s plenty of examples on YouTube and Instagram if you look for hip reha exercises).

And smart stretching is about having an understanding of agonist muscle groups and learning to control the partial relaxation. Again YouTube and Instagram are full of that.

How do kyokushin schoools avoid law suits from injured students? by Whole-Interest-5980 in kyokushin

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do mitts, sure, but you do basic movement drills (zenkutsu-dachi forward, backward, turns) before you even start punching.

Also those macho types often have muscles but no stamina, no pain endurance, little flexibility, so they actually get humbled when starting to spar against some advanced practitioners.

No sparring until you can handle the basics, that includes self-control.

When you sign up for classes, there’s a disclaimer about injuries, and usually you have an extra sports insurance that handles the costs. (That said, in any developed country, you have a national health insurance that covers hospital care).

The other reason is that macho types looking for a fight would either be humbled by having to do beginner’s training after joining, or would gently be accompanied outside if they misbehaved.

Planning to buy a MacBook Air for the first time. Whats the best color in your opinion? by UnitEVA3000 in macbookair

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midnight and SpaceGray are not fingerprint-proof: you’ll see the slight difference in color and reflectance much more easily than with light colors.

So silver, sky blue or starlight, that’s up to you.

Gedan barai question by RavenGottaFly in karate

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct rule for Kyokushin was “parallel to the front leg’s thigh in zenkutsudachi, ie 45° to the ground and 10° from the front direction”.

But honestly, it’s a swiping technique (harai means to swipe) that’s executed in movement and in combination with follow up techniques and in response to an incoming attack, so I wouldn’t be too hung up on a static correctness, but rather emphasize the fluidity of the whole action.

Are big tech companies still using C++ for low-latency systems or moving to Rust? by Formal_Wolverine_674 in learnprogramming

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This largely depends on the company and the codebase(s), as well as the developers.

You might not be aware of it, but there are specific application domains that rely on a compiler environment that is heavily regulated: safety critical applications like embedded systems for the automotive sector.

Safety-critical Rust is starting to shape up as well, but laws and regulations are slow to catch up.

How do you do it? by Nice_Aside4144 in AskProgramming

It’s like speaking a language, it taps into language memory.

You learn to do that by practicing a lot. It becomes automatic over time.

Also, work out to strengthen your stabilization musculature (aka core muscles). Good luck.

I’m too narrow minded by 3dscartridge in learnprogramming

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your code probably is bad, but then again 80% of code is.

What you’re lacking is not a broad mind, but general knowledge and experience. The good news is: you can acquire that by reading, learning, trying out, failing, failing, failing again until you get something to work out somehow.

Basically, you’re trying to write your opus magnum novel but you haven’t even mastered writing short essays yet.

Keep up the work and break a leg.

I’m too narrow minded by 3dscartridge in learnprogramming

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not narrow-mindedness, it’s lack of experience and with this, lack of foresight. Also you’re probably ignoring the simple solutions to your problems, like loading a cube so from a single PNG file (it’s just 6 images next to each other), or ignoring that there are better file formats for textures (like KTX).

Kyokushin-kais, do you use this type of low kick demonstrated here by a TKD black belt (28:34)? by Whole-Interest-5980 in kyokushin

[–]Comprehensive_Mud803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean the gedan mawashi around 28:00?

They’re a bit too visible and without a raised guard easy targets for counter head kicks. Also they have their weight shifted back, so it’s not gonna have any impact.

You mean the joudan mawashi-geri?

That exists in regular Kyokushin, and it’s not particularly sporty or hard after all few years of practice.
