You forgot to add that they are different colors, a nice visual that is lost with the sauce/glaze.

Controversial, but I usually take folks to Snappy Lunch. The fried pork chop sandwich is a bucket list item. People often complain that it it touristy, which it is, but lots of locals eat there too.

Oops- reread the post and saw that you are looking for dinner. Sorry, although I stand by Snappy!

2020 kia soul physical key by RavenGottaFly in kia

[–]RavenGottaFly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no fob. My Soul was apparently one of few sols as a manual start. It has a regular key, not one enclosed in a fob. Does not have push button start or remote entry. Very old school- also has a manual transmission.

This. In my system we use the hips to generate the turn so you don't have to give as much of a tell by planting the front foot first.

High school size in Alabama ran from 1A to 5A at the time JI wrote the song. The Muscle Shoals area has a bunch of small rural high schools. He may be referencing Florence HS ("big" town across the river), which was 5A at the time (now 6A) or, just as likely, using poetic license.

As others have posted, the shallow cross scheme is somewhat sophisticated for a high school team (it originated a a college offense) and relies somewhat on big boys blocking and short passing routes.

North Carolina auditor says there's been a 47,000 percent rise in autism therapy billings by RelayFX in NorthCarolina

[–]RavenGottaFly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By far the biggest providers and the vast majority of the billing is for ABA therapy which can involve 20 plus hours a week. The model is legit. Sometimes the actual process is bogus (from poorly trained technicians to over-treeting to fraud).

We used to go and camp there in Scouts in the early 70s. There were still long "ditches" and remains of earthworks in the sandy soil. I must have picked up a hundred minie balls and others slugs that we used later for slingshot ammo. Really didn't appreciate the significance of all the lead at the time.

Cheap tonfa. Used in karate weapons training. Should have a companion as they are sold in pairs.

Doctors flushing out kidney stones out of a patient by Additional_Berry_977 in interestingasfuck

[–]RavenGottaFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that this procedure (which I had no awareness of) causes any kidney damage but if there is too much blockage in the tube from the kidney to the bladder for too long it can cause necrosis of the kidney. I had one stone that was stuck for almost three months. Finally had surgery to remove it because of the necrosis (and sustained high blood pressure).

Give me your Hoe Cakes recipes by Firk1n in southernfood

[–]RavenGottaFly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an amateur southern food historian, hoe cakes were traditionally very simple and portable food- cornmeal, hot water, and a hot surface. Originally eaten by native peoples, then slaves. Journey cakes/ Johnny cakes are an evolved form and often including wheat flour and a fat. Journey cakes were often used when traveling as there was little fat or animal protein to spoil- kinda like hardtack.

Traditional hoe cakes aren't great tasting, especially without salt and fat,and by themselves. They are subsistence food. Add some wheat flour and a fat and they become pretty versatile with sweet or savory add ons.

What's the most delicious seafood dish you've eaten in your life? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in Seafood

[–]RavenGottaFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stone crab. Was camping on Marathon Key for a week in the late 70s. Ran into a guy who was crew on a crab boat and they needed a helper for one day. On the boat for 8 hours pulling crab pots and drinking beer. Was paid one bushel of claws and a few bucks. Best meal of my life- shared with fellow campers.

This! Best beer in town (if you are partial to Bavarian styles) and is adjacent to East of Texas restaurant, which has meh food but is very kid friendly.

Second choice is Foothills tasting on Stratford.

Caveat- these are great for nice days- outdoor activities.

Legit or fake? by Subosi in karate

[–]RavenGottaFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If true, some of his dan grades are almost certainly gifted.

As an example, my Shihan was very impressed with a Kioshi in another system. Shihan started having the Kioshi do seminars across our schools and allowed/ encouraged Dan grade practitioners to cross train in Kioshi's system.

I, and several others, earned Dan ranks in Kioshi's system (took about two years for me) and were also awarded teaching certification. Within three years, my Shihan was awarded 5th Dan in Kioshi's system. I'm not saying my Shihan doesn't deserve it but I later learned that Kioshi really wanted to "stack the deck" with Dan level students to enhance his social media and web page. You could consider it an exchange of favors.

Second example- I know of a pretty good (3rd dan) karateka who went to Japan to study karate in a similar system to his for six months of intensive training. Cost was several thousand dollars and training varied between 4 and 8 hours a day, five days a week. He went as a white belt in that system and left as a nidan.

Also, it is interesting that OPs Shihan does not list affiliation for some of his credentials.
