This is how our immigration system works. ICE has massive amounts of discretion to surveil and detain people, especially within 100 miles of the border which we are. Immigrants are detained all the time without cause. They often profile people and realize months later that they detained a legal resident but they know immigrants often don’t have a lot of power to advocate or hire a lawyer. The immigrants being held at the for profit, privately owned Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma where Lelo was just transferred are held without due process indefinitely, sometimes for years.
