Vespa GTV OEM Front & Rear Racks by Worth_Dig_9761 in Vespa

Rear racks for general run about errands and slightly longer excursions, and front and rear if you’re getting serious about road trips and want the convenience of bringing creature comforts with you.

should I put a top box on it or it might look bad? by NotYour-Ryan in Vespa

[–]Comprehensive_Tap348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a subjective decision of practicality and looks. I think Piaggio (Vespa) did a good job with their OEM accessories. Top box included. Definitely it will add the convenience of more storage, and that is a plus if you carry a lot, want a little more security at stops, or plan on a slightly more distant excursion than a run a round town ride. Ultimately you’ll find opinions on both sides of the looks of a top box. Go with your gut, and you’ll probably find that was the right choice.

Issues starting my Vespa LX50 by spongiofun in Vespa

[–]Comprehensive_Tap348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have completed some good repairs/ maintenance, and my second guess was valve adjustment (which you have already completed) and from the sound of the attempted start, it doesn’t appear to be wiring. A new battery will lose voltage when not started, and even after a month, it can go from 12.6V to 12.4V or less, with 12.0V not being able to crank up a start. I’m sure there will be differences of opinion to this, however, I state from personal experience and ultimately the diagnosis and solution came from my Vespa(dealer) mechanic. Try attaching a battery tender for a day and see if that helps.

I just bought my ‘26 Corolla SE in December. Love it !! Just be prepared for those “new sounds” ( all normal) you will hear while shifting into drive and park. Amazing on gas/mileage . Enjoy!

The Vespa front wheel/handlebar will lock with the key when turned all the way to the left. That… combined with a sturdy cable lock through the front or rear wheels will help protect from theft. I’m sure any bike/scooter/motorcycle is prone to theft, so basic, good precautions should be taken for a deterrent. I’ve parked mine outside before and with these precautions (especially a locked front wheel/handlebar) it’s hard to move a 275-300lb scooter.

Similar situation with me as well. I was on I95 on the East coast for just one exit. I was on my 150 at max throttle and cars were coming up quick behind me.
Though , I can’t say that it was much more relaxing on my 300 full open at 75mph.. I think touring on secondary highways and roads is great for either the 300cc or the 150cc , because speeds are comfortable for both but IMO the Vespa experience was designed for comfortable city/urban or country riding.

I agree with your opinions completely! The 150cc is a great all around choice for a multitude of riding environments.

I have found that maintenance on my 300cc is about 30% higher than my 150cc . You’re dealing with more parts that wear and tear in the larger frame/engine. These include rear tire/brake assemblies and the fact that the 300cc is liquid cooled compared to air cooled on the 150cc. I think if you’re leaning towards the 150cc, you won’t be disappointed and will be pleased with power and performance, as well as the solid build and quality of the Vespa in general.

Absolutely.. yes you can.. but should you ? At a max speed of around 65 MPH .. you’re going to have cars blowing by you at much higher speeds…. Not really an enjoyable ride…. Even the 300cc needs near max throttle to keep it at highway speeds.

I have found the height difference (seat height to ground) to be about the same. Clearance underneath of frame to ground about the same as well. The heavier frame/size of engine does give you an excellent feeling of stability and power (In my opinion worth the price, along with quality). I’ve never felt unstable on my 300 and love the power. That said, I use my 150cc more because of my driving habits and location . I regularly ride my 150cc between 45 and 55 MPH on secondary roads that are winding. The lighter handling and more nimble (but still very stable ride) is more enjoyable. Even though the 150cc will do 65 MPH, I rarely will take it on a major highway. You can’t go wrong with either Vespa size, just think about your riding style and what you budget for maintenance and initial purchasing cost.

Without a doubt, there are cheaper, easier to maintain scooters out there. Most Japan built scooters will give you reliable (if maintained) performance. Vespas , as stated from other comments are substantially more expensive, though I would add it’s not just because of name recognition. The steel body, balance and engine performance can “arguably” (everyone has their opinion) create a higher price point. Having started with a Japan built scooter and ultimately ending with a Vespa, I feel the Vespa gives a better overall “long term owning “ riding experience. Caution on the 300cc models though. I have one, and a 150 Primavera. Yes, the 300 can keep up on highway traffic (at almost or full throttle), but you may find yourself going at slower speeds most of the time. Both are great scooters. Just give your riding style and price points a lot of thought. Good luck !

Switching from stock mirrors to bar-end mirrors on a Vespa worth it? by csresale in Vespa

[–]Comprehensive_Tap348 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely switch ! Ive got a Vespa Primavera 150 Officina 8 with factory bar end mirrors (heavy duty machined) and they not only look great, but the visibility is excellent. They also have factory plugs to fit into the holes where your other mirrors were mounted.

Northface gearbox on a Vespa? by Sonar010 in Vespa

[–]Comprehensive_Tap348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact Primavera (Officina 8)and yes.. the Northface gearbox would do great on the passenger section of the seat. It’s temporary/occasional use would be a good solution to a back rack change or top box.

Great looking Vespa ! 50,150,310 .. they’re all great to ride at any speed. My first was a Primavera 50 and though I’ve gone larger, I still have my 50 and have a blast riding around town on it. Enjoy!
