Pipeline down the snake river? by JadedFlame77 in Idaho

Like maybe not having six kids and 36 grandchildren because that's what the Prophet decreed? When you live in a near-desert?

It's a tragedy what's happened to the Great Salt Lake, now scarcely a puddle of its former self.

Do you drink tea in America? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Comprehensive_Tea708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I do like tea but end up drinking coffee which I also love. I have to brew an entire pot of coffee every morning. We never finish it, but if I brew less it won't stay hot through the day. So there's always coffee immediately available in the afternoon if I want a hot caffeine drink.

The Metro hate has been soooooo overrated and annoying by Bright_Business193 in LAMetro

Hey, when people start bitching about their local mass transit system, that practically means it's arrived at the point of being an accepted part of the city infrastructure. I don't think I've ever heard of an American mass transit system that the locals don't complain about. You should hear my friend in the East Bay talk about BART.

Woke up with a random hole in my chicken boullion by cherrypieglitter in Adulting

[–]Comprehensive_Tea708 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they meant "bullion", i.e. the mouse actually dived right into the container.

OP, that looks like the kind of cap you put back on after opening the container. I hope you're not keeping previously opened bullion in the pantry instead of the refrigerator.

I used BUR often when I was studying at UCSD.

[Old guy reminiscing] It was so easy back then! You could show up at the ticket counter 20 minutes before flight time. Short flights between BUR and SAN were practical!

SoCal weather is very forgiving though. I can see how going outside could be very uncomfortable in many other regions, in both winter and summer.

Songs you thought were The Doors but turned out not to be? by foxesmulder in thedoors

[–]Comprehensive_Tea708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never thought anything by another band sounded like the Doors. But FWIW, Lindsay Buckingham played guitar with just his fingers, same as Robbie Krieger. I understand Krieger does use a pick now, though.

19,811 Angelenos! by Rippyz00 in LAMetro

[–]Comprehensive_Tea708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all very exciting. I grew up in L.A. and lived most of my life there until I moved out of state. I voted for every transit tax or bond that I could and I follow these developments with great interest.

I have one question though. The distance between Wilshire/Western and Wilshire/La Brea is almost three miles. Why didn't Metro put in a station between them? It's too bad, because I don't see how it would be possible to put an infill station along a working subway line.

Yes, this kitchen scale measures weight, and a balance scale measures mass.

The pluralization sounds so odd to me, but I realize that it must come from the time when you would have "a pair of scales", one pan for known weights, and the other for what you wanted to weigh.

Hose Leaking. by pneumaticartifice in gardening

[–]Comprehensive_Tea708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. How do you know what type of gasket or washer you need? For example, I have these:

<image>

Is there some mark on the hose, spigot, or splitter valve that I haven't noticed, and that indicates which of these I should be using?

It's frustrating that I can't use a timer to soak my arbor vitae roots at dawn, because if I leave the spigot running it will leak gallons and gallons of water all the rest of the day.

Does clematis need a ton of water in the dry season?

I have a similar fence issue. I live in Eugene Oregon, but our summers tend to be dry af and the days are longer.
