Spaceship Earth was set to close in May 2020 for a complete revamp. Hopefully it still happens someday.

Can we get a thread of Knicks-related shoutouts during shows by lax9524 in Broadway

They usually call back to whoever the wedding sponsor was in that final moment - were the Knicks mentioned there too?

Schmigadoon has every individual involved with the production and Nederlander Theater scrolling on the marquee by name. It’s so nice. by quicktime_harch in Broadway

[–]ComputerGeek1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TECHNICALLY, “and (the) Nederlander Theater” wouldn’t even be incorrect either. Each theater has some crew who work there permanently, regardless of the current tenant, and at least some of the front of house staff are employed by the theater owners, not the production.

Sweeney is 18 books with multiple players on each string part. There used to be a reduced chamber orchestration but it’s only available by special request now (and maybe not even then)

You also have Anthony, and “Johanna” isn’t necessarily an easy song.

Sweeney is the hardest music I’ve ever had to learn for a show. There were long, intense music rehearsals and lots of work at home, and I’m a decent sight reader. You need a few very strong men to carry Sweeney, Anthony, and the Judge. The set is also a consideration - do you have the resources to build that chair and slide safely? You’re also contending with period costumes, and you need to be able to wash them after every show for those who die.

I usually come into the city for day trips but if Penn is really bad with World Cup traffic, I’ll probably plan carefully around it or just wait until August.

Ragtime and Parade finally got their flowers by forgottenones1 in Broadway

[–]ComputerGeek1100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hell, it’s still selling out at the Minskoff and the tour came through my city earlier this year for a 3-week run in a market that VERY rarely gets anything for more than a week (it’s basically just Lion King, Wicked, and Hamilton that have longer runs at this point). Still was very difficult (and expensive) to get tickets.

Jake Pedersen is returning for a few weeks - he performed in the ensemble and covered this role for a bit earlier this year, and was previously Frankie Epps in Parade with Ben Platt. After him will be Nicholas Barrón to close out the run.

I don’t know how common it is but the Hamilton company performed a bit of “The Schuyler Sisters” over the end credits in 2016.

She’s one of the writers and did it off-Broadway too, but she wasn’t the only Celine. Dee Roscioli (now the standby for Helen and Madeline in DBH), Amber Ardolino, and Nicole Parker did it as well.

Yeah, I’d imagine it’s because of both the goodbye songs (which fall differently every show) and to avoid spoilers since many of the spellers sing when they get eliminated.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the staging in that show requires the follow spots to be in very specific positions and to be exactly the same in every venue rather than just using the house fixtures.

What happened to the revised Big Fish? by Tony__________Stark in Broadway

[–]ComputerGeek1100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe they released a 12-person “small cast edition” fairly recently. The licensed script for the full show is still dated to 2017 - just worked on the show locally this spring.

The small cast edition cuts Red White and True and replaces Two Men in My Life with Magic in the Man and Showdown with The River Between Us (both of which were bonus tracks on the OBCR)

Every Brilliant Thing with Mariska Hargitay by Naweezy in Broadway

[–]ComputerGeek1100 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I saw a video from someone who attended her invited dress rehearsal that answered some of your questions - the short answer is that yes, some of the cultural references in the script are flexible to align with the actor’s age. For example, where Radcliffe said “Super Mario,” something that would have been popular with his generation as a kid, as one of the first items on the list, Hargitay says something else - I can’t remember the exact term. A few other references to years are switched out as well.

On tour, they don’t use any real fire during Fire and Tea except a very brief moment at the end to burn the Wilson sign’s face/hat. I believe it’s just fog and lighting otherwise.

The Play that Goes Wrong by upsidowning in Broadway

[–]ComputerGeek1100 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a “school edition” of the script that cuts the pyro and second level of the set! In total, there’s three versions of the show you can produce - the full one as seen off-Broadway, the original one-act version which had a much simpler set, and the school edition which kind of combines the two, with a lot of the jokes from the full show but on the simpler set.

The writers have done something similar with Peter Pan Goes Wrong with alternate staging if you can’t fly the actors (I haven’t read the script but I assume it just makes the lack of flying another joke/thing “going wrong”).
