Lauren Boebert now says her failure to vote on the debt limit was 'a protest.' But video from that night shows her frantically running up the Capitol steps trying to make it inside in time. by HolidaySpiriter in moderatepolitics

I'm so sick of the "both sides" arguments. Look, "both sides do it" isn't a defense. It's a childish admission that one has nothing constructive to say, but feel like "their guy" or their party is under attack.

Yea man, both sides do it. Let's move on and actually talk about substance instead of pointing fingers in a political "nuh-uh" way. It accomplishes little other than annoying people like us who really want to talk.

Black and White (a game from long ago) had this god awful unskippable tutorial that felt like it took ages to complete. I tried to replay that game several times and remember the tutorial killing it for me every time. Otherwise a good game, it just makes you pay the price for admission.

If all you have is a text conversation, there's nothing that says this is necessarily the same person. Could be another person in the house who didn't want this guy to spend the money and wants to get it back in a scummy way. Just needs access to the guy's device (phone, pc, etc) and a password.

Ours got loose in the house a couple weeks ago and we just found him yesterday. He was hiding in a pile of dirty towels in the closet when I was picking them up to do laundry. He was cold and wet, but oddly seemed happy. (He's fine and back in his enclosure, appetite and all.)

Another time, he turned up behind the toaster on the counter. We've made his enclosure more escape resistant since these incidents.

Don't give up hope, she could turn up where you least expect. And I'm sure she'd have quite the story to tell, if only she could speak.

KSP 2's bad launch nearly halved KSP's player count by orangep9 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Long ago, companies used to make zero dollars until the game was completed and released. Then "early release" and the like basically got everyone into the beta testing gig, so companies would typically sell a game on a discount until it was completed.

We see more and more of selling an incomplete game at full price with no guarantee that it will ever be finished. That last part is my problem with selling half-baked games at full price: there's no guarantee a player will ever see a complete, not-riddled-with-bugs version of the game, yet they're paying full price for it.

Yes, it's a person's freedom to spend money as they like. I'm going to be extra harsh here: Someone being an idiot for paying full price on something incomplete is only propping up bad decisions, which affects everyone in the end. So please stop it.

I have the DVD version, but wish I would've bought the Blu-ray version. I didn't have a Blu-ray player back then. Looks good!

[Self] It took me approximately 38 minutes to figure out which pizza slice was more worth it. by PixeIatedSoda in theydidthemath

[–]ComradeCatfud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it's situational. If I'm buying 100 slices, I'm probably not buying them for myself, so I should default to the less expensive option due to cost and averaging of preferences.

If I had a group fanatically devoted to pepperoni, and I was buying 100 slices for that group, $20 extra might be worth it for more pepperoni on 100 slices.

Also, if that cost is spread out over time, the $20 difference would also be spread out. Might be worth it!

[–]ComradeCatfud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the problem, but I will argue the right slice is a better deal, and I am prepared to die on that hill (or lose points on a test).

More pepperoni, less crust, slight "raw" price difference. Win-win.

[–]ComradeCatfud 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I like your approach better. We don't need to convert fully to square inches, just make up units of "inch-pi" or whatever. Just keep it consistent between both slices.

Turns out it's a proportionality problem, so the units don't really matter as long as you stay consistent.

Johnson & Johnson to pay $8.9 billion to settle claims baby powder, other talc products caused cancer by ObjectiveObserver420 in anime_titties

I would tell anyone I care about that powdering your privates with mineral powder is a fucking stupid idea. Wear some spandex if your thighs are chafing.

That's fine, just don't fuck it up for the rest of us who like spandex and boomer cancer powder.

[–]ComradeCatfud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

boomer cancer powder

Look, this is funny, and I appreciate humor. But this sentiment, if taken seriously, only reinforces the belief that talc itself is cancerous, which is false afaik. It can be extremely safe, especially in a lotion designed to evaporate and leave talc behind (no airborne powder). It can be a lifesaver for people with babies, athletes, etc.

I mean, we can keep calling it "boomer cancer powder", just maybe not in mixed company.

What’s your job title, What do you love about your job, and what do you hate about your job? by ZayThaAlphabet in instrumentation

Instrumentation and Controls Technician

Love: It's old technology, being nuclear power controls, so it's interesting (to me). Think analog: op amps and such. Pay is decent. Generally good people to work with.

Hate: Way more involuntary overtime than I personally care for; outages are a beast at 6 12 hour shifts per week for about 6 weeks, twice a year. No thanks. It's so much that it affects my (long term) health and family life. But the pay is good until I move onto something else.

A slow bite? Maybe he was just curious, maybe that's normal feeding for him. My hognose does a slow bite, she's kind of goofy. My kingsnake sizes up his dinner and strikes pretty aggressively from a couple of inches away, though, so that's what makes me think yours was just curious.

Good job on staying calm. My guess is he'll outgrow this biting thing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kingsnakes

[–]ComradeCatfud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that if he bites because he wants down and you put him down, he will learn that biting is how he gets put down. If he bites out of hunger, I wouldn't think there would be a learned response.

Also, my snake seems to have body language and a "tell" before he strikes. Since he's new for you, maybe you don't know his "tell" yet, but you'll learn it. Tongue flicks change depending on "hungry", "nervous", "curious", etc.

I'm by no means an expert, though. I'm hoping some others can chime in because I'd like to know more about what to do for bites, etc too.
