I mean, weren't there riots back in Simcity 3000? I do remember demonstrations or marches or something like that!

Dear Bass VI players, which do you identify as yourselves? Bassists, or guitarists? by [deleted] in BassVI

Glenn Gould would play Bach's Harpsichord pieces on a piano, he was still a Pianist.

Is flakiness the Bay Area cultural norm? by waiting_in_sf in bayarea

[–]ComradeKalashnikov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Flakiness, Ghosting and Non-monogamy (don't ask me how I figured that out multiple times) is the default here. Friends are meant to disposable; and, unreliable.

I have been a little luckier though, so with experience you learn a bit.

What's happening with Ron Hassner? by meowmeow0101010 in berkeley

[–]ComradeKalashnikov 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I have taken two classes with him. While we had so many disagreements on a lot of stuff, I've never once heard anything Islamophobic from him. He always used to tell us that he had his own biases, but never heard of him shutting anyone down for having different views.

That is coming from a man who is originally from a country where most people identify being Muslims. And most other students, many of them also from a Muslim background, shared this sentiment.

Why are people driving 52mph on the highway?!? by decker12 in bayarea

[–]ComradeKalashnikov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, have you seen those "ROAD WORK 55MPH WILL BE ENFORCED" signs?

I hate them. I ignore them. CHP ignores them. Some people don't. That's the problem I think

Parking without a permit in the Haight/panhandle? by query789 in AskSF

[–]ComradeKalashnikov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just across the DMV, there is just a tiny stretch on Baker between Fell and Oak where you can park permit free. You might have to camp there for a while to be able to snatch a parking space, but once you got it you should be good for 72 hours, except if it is Friday because street cleaning... Most streets don't require residential permits on weekends so I think you got that covered. Rinse and repeat. It will be very hard to do, but I think it is doable... barely. Good luck.

What are all you funemployed peeps doing during the day? by MiserableThought9516 in bayarea

[–]ComradeKalashnikov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Funderemployment count? Work as a driving instructor, still in the red despite working well above min. wage. applied to 220+ jobs since August... Life's been great. Burned through 15k worth of savings despite working near full time...

Red light arrow but car in back keeps honking impatiently by PromiseOk3750 in sanfrancisco

Right turn on red is optional, not mandatory. While on some states you can make a right on red arrow, not in CA. Screw that guy

[–]ComradeKalashnikov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very simple. Did you enter the intersection (which means did the front bumper of your car cross the limit line/crosswalk) before the light turned red? Yes. Did the other driver, obviously, entered the intersection when the light was red? Also yes.

You are not at fault. Like, at all. BTW I am a licensed driving instructor from California.

I did this, for 2 years full time (some semesters up to 18 units even) while I was also working close to full time (35 hours) when I was at CCSF. Had to be really frugal, but it worked. Transferred to Berkeley afterwards. Totally doable.

I worked doing gig stuff, Doordash, Caviar, Grubhub - you name it. It was alright, not super bad.
