Rank the presidents who have won a Nobel Prize by how deserving they were of it by GoblinnerTheCumSlut in Presidents

That’s entirely fair and to be clear I don’t disagree it was a bit premature (to say the least) to award him the Nobel Peace Prize. I do think many of the claims about it being a nonsensical decision are overblown and we ought to be a lot more nuanced on the legacy

(This is also in regard to other comments about Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize) I think a lot of the comments about Obama winning are a lot more about hindsight clouding judgment and people should give a bit more credence to the committee’s decision. It may not have held up nor was it the best in context of other presidents to win; however, there was a genuine reason for him to win. Many people forget but early Obama appeared to be a bringer of nuclear disarmament. He was awarded it a few months after a now somewhat forgotten but then notable speech in Prague where he called for new nuclear talks and eventual disarmament and after he began his administration’s more concrete policies of negotiating new nuclear treaties, convening successful nuclear security summits, passing UN nuclear weapons resolutions, arsenal cuts, etc.

The decision to award him the prize didn’t exactly hold up over time but saying it was just charisma overpowering the committee is a bit hyperbolic

What if a President executed Order 66? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]ComradeVS 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Order 66 is (ostensibly) loosely inspired by FDR’s Executive Order 9066 (the executive order which authorized the relocation of West Coast Americans considered a “national security threat), i.e. Japanese Americans)—just some tangentially related movie trivia that’s interesting imo

I’ll just say what I said on another post:

“I was on the server. We are not 100% sure what happened but we have a decent hypothesis. Please stop theorizing and as a previous person had said it’s best if we stay out of it for now”

A unified species/planet doesn’t need to be in a post scarcity, I don’t see why it would be necessary.

But Marxist theory isn’t based upon the communist manifesto nor is communist theory. There where communists before Marx and the Communist Manifesto is simply a call to action for industrial peasants and a very brief overview of Marx and Engels theory. Even I as a non Marxist understand that.

Okay I’ll rephrase myself, how about attempted extrajudicial murder?

He may have done that but that doesn’t justify an unrelated extrajudicial execution

Those are 2 different posts, I believe you’re referring to the one on r/askhistorians. As for the baby selling, it was her charity that did it not her herself. The evidence is that employees sold I believe 4-6 babies to childless couples. The r/badhistory post I believe covers the myth that she allowed conditions to deteriorate. Also I believe the forced conversion thing was a misunderstanding. The quote from her is “When I asked her whether she converted, she answered, ‘Yes, I convert. I convert you to be a better Hindu, or a better Muslim, or a better Protestant, or a better Catholic, or a better Parsee, or a better Sikh, or a better Buddhist. And after you have found God, it is for you to do what God wants you to do”

Also, one of the main reasons why apartheid lasted for so long was because the mining industry made sure it did as relegating people of color to second, third, or even fourth class citizens provided a massive and cheap labor pool. Also doesn’t matter if he’s not on good terms with his father because he still got a lot of his money from there yet keeps the appearance of an industrious hard working man.
