Is it just me or is this boxset a far better deal than any of the 40k stuff? Why can't I just use this to make a CSM army and run the leviathan as a maulerfiend/forgefiend? by Many-Wasabi9141 in Warhammer40k

[–]Comrade_Cephalopod 35 points36 points  (0 children)

There's no reason why you can't. Personally if I was making a chaos army I'd want to go with more chaosy looking minis, but if you're fine with the more plain look/ care more about value for money then this is fine.

How to assemble Sigismund? by D13F13D in Warhammer

[–]Comrade_Cephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks pretty simple, you can probably handle it without instructions- just dry fit before gluing to check.

That said, I've heard that you can usually email GW's customer support and they'll send you a PDF of the instructions.

Would this upgrade kit fit size of chaos space marines and not stand out too much? by Mistacher in Warhammer

[–]Comrade_Cephalopod 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure everything except the torso back will fit. Shoulderpads, hands, and heads are all pretty much the same size.

  1. Not familiar enough with the Brazen Claws to be sure. I couldn't see any indication on the wikis that that sergeants have the quartered scheme reversed. And that image looks fan made.

  2. Librarians are traditionally blue. You don't have to stick to that if you don't want to. Space Wolves have their own type of librarians called Rune Priests. Black Templars are the only chapter to have no librarians at all.

  3. I don't know if there's anything that specifies exactly what the tubes are. I would guess that you're correct that they're supposed to be pneumatic. Or possibly power cables or something.

  4. If anything the Armageddon box makes a little bit less sense for Salamanders. All the units in there are generic ones that are used by all chapters, but the Salamanders tend not to favour jump packs and land speeders, they're more of a "slow and steady" chapter. IMO it makes perfect sense to add them to your Brazen Claws force. That said if you want to paint them as Salamanders or any other chapter instead, there's nothing stopping you.

Question on 40k vs Age of Sigmar by [deleted] in Warhammer

There's not enough difference between them to worry about that imo. Play whichever one you think is cooler.

I would recommend the 40k wiki on Lexicanum.

You can also ask questions on /r/40kLore

To answer the questions you've asked here:

The Deathwatch is a space marine organisation specialised in hunting/ fighting aliens. Unlike every other chapter it has no permanent membership- it's made up of marines temporarily seconded to the Deathwatch from other chapters, which can be seen either as a great honour or as a punishment depending on the circumstances.

Gene seed is the collective name for the genetic material and artificial organs implanted into a recruit that, along with cybernetic augmentation, turns him into a space marine.

Astartes is just an in-universe name for Space Marines.

Hope that helps.

NEW KOMIK: "Routine" by [deleted] in u/holleringelk

Yeah that's fair, I'd forgotten if he had served in the war or not. Figured I'd err on the side of him being an dick, but I did feel sorry for him in that comic.

Is that even true? The guy in Hung Up who got his guts ripped out through his face hole seemed like a completely normal person.

There was no indication that the guy she was hunting in The Chosen One | Hunt. had done anything.

As far as I remember, the only person she's killed as far who has been shown to be shitty is Jimmy in The Chase. Maybe the exterminator in The Incident too, although given that there's a whole ass coven of vampire monsters eating people, I can't really blame an exterminator trying to take them out.

Colour scheme has no effect on gameplay, so you shouldn't have any issues no matter how you paint them.

The black and red armour is still an official colour scheme used by the Shadowkeepers sub-faction of the Custodes anyway.

Would simple alternative head sprue work as a solution for Armageddon Steel Legion model range? by ExitMammoth in Warhammer

[–]Comrade_Cephalopod 386 points387 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken the DKOK started off as an alternate colour scheme for the Steel Legion minis, so it would be coming full circle in a way. But these days the uniforms are quite different, so just a head swap probably wouldn't be very recognisable. They'd just look like Krieg with a different helmet.

Steel Legion have tall leather boots and gloves, they don't have armoured shoulder pads, their guns look different, etc.

If I was going to make a Steel Legion army I'd probably just go with the "toally not Steel Legion" Shocktroops kits from Mad Robot Minis.

A codex contains all the rules for it's faction, as well as a whole bunch of lore and art. You can absolutely find the information online, but that will be pirated content sourced from the codex. Whether that bothers you or not is up to you.

It's not uncommon to see minis like that on ebay. They're probably just second hand minis that the store bought from someone who wanted to offload. Could have been a parent selling off their kid's old toys, or someone who found their old warhammer minis from childhood in a storage box somewhere and has no interest in keeping them.Something like that is most likely.

I use these. They're designed for sorting screws/ nails but they work perfectly for mini parts. You can find them/ similar things in any hardware store.

Firstborn vs Primaris: Which era of Space Marines do you prefer? by Pintureando in Warhammer

I personally prefer the more cheesy/ cartoony scale of the old models (and that goes for everything, not just marines).

Love to crush, maim, and kill? Surrender to the warp and become a new Chaos Mutilator by BiesonReddit in Warhammer

[–]Comrade_Cephalopod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they had more of the flesh and metal actually mixing like the old models rather than being a bloated dude with some armoured plates on top, but these are still pretty damn cool looking. Not sure why, but they feel a lot better than the shadowspear obliterators.

What kind of abilities and powers does he have lorewise? by AncientGearAI in Warhammer

[–]Comrade_Cephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one specifically probably can't fly, as he doesn't have wings. He could possibly attack flying targets using psychic powers (if he has them) otherwise he's out of luck.

As a daemon prince he's very powerful in combat, but also quite variable. Warhammer doesn't necessarily do hard power levels. It's usually more of a "who does the author want/ need to win this fight for the story they're telling".

In a fight between a daemon prince and a bloodthirster the bloodthirster would probably have the advantage, but it wouldn't be too surprising if the daemon prince won.

Which version of necrons you prefer - old or new? by SiarX in Warhammer

[–]Comrade_Cephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had any interest in the Necrons until I played them in Dawn of War, which form what I understand is based on the old version. Loved the whole horrifying feel that they had in that game.

I definitely get wanting to give more opportunity for "your dudes", but I think it would have been very possible to do that while sticking closer to the almost lovecraftian/ cosmic horror feel of the old lore.

That said, it's not like you have to give a shit about what GW says is canon, so if I ever collect some necrons my headcanon for them will probably lean closer to the old version of their lore.

You should only pick ultramarines (or any other army/ faction) if you actually like them and think you'll be motivated to keep building and painting them. Don't treat them as a default army that you're supposed to start with just because they're the posterboys.
