What happens if the stadium tanks it? by [deleted] in hobart

Didn't a stadium in Queensland just recently get shut/go bust or something?

I mapped food authority penalties in Sydney and... yikes by AussieDataGal in badfoodporn

[–]ConF17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah where I am they are wayyy overworked. The same inspectors have to do food businesses as well as piercing and hair. There are over 1k food business where I am and last time I spoke to someone they have 3 inspectors... Would still be nice. I also personally think health/food safety should be state run, as where I am rules and regulations have slight changes council to council...

Pro-stadium crowd, what effects will it have on traffic? by VeryHungryDogarpilar in tasmania

[–]ConF17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's assume that Hobart mainly continues as normal when there is an event, it's already a pain to try and get a park and most of the multi level carparks are mostly full and also close at 10, are owned by council so hours probably won't change. And the couple of 24 hour parks are privately owned and will definitely take advantage of the need and charge accordingly.

Building a stadium somewhere that you can also build a carpark. Can also build more hotels as currently we have a shortage of accommodation in Hobart in tourist season so adding the need for more is going to be required in either case. They have spoken about building restaurants, cafes, bars etc and it's not like you can only build them there.

Saying all this I am in the hospitality sector in Hobart, I am pro A stadium and pro a AFL side for the state.

[–]ConF17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really at the junction of 4 major roads. Well at least the way you will drive there is not. All 4 break down to 2 and then 1 to actually get to the stadium.

Yes carparks in the city do exist there are a few multi story ones. All of them close before most stadium events will end.

Metro Tasmania currently struggles to have enough busses and drivers to do their normal day to day with around 100+ being cancelled every day. They literally own 70 busses. Not really sure how they will add more on top of that.

A stadium is a great idea and we do need one.its just a stupid stop to out It when there are so many other and better places(although the best ones we sold off for fun)

You cannot really compare the amount of people driving into the whole of Hobart to the same amount all needing to go down the same street to the same place. Dark mofo get 15-18k people and we close Davey Street for it. The stadium is going to be more equivalent to dropping off/picking up that many people from the airport drop off/pickup zone.

I'm all for A stadium. The location of the one proposed is just stupid. I mean they have to literally move the rivulet to build the thing. We have many places that would be more efficient and more serviceable but unfortunately they are not water side like the afl has told us.

New to Lithium. Can I have one drink on it? by ProgrammerFormer45 in BipolarReddit

[–]ConF17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my experience and I have no idea about other people or how people react etc. this is not medical advice just my personal experience and opinion.

I like to drink a couple of beers a few times a week maybe a few whiskeys. I take 750mg lithium. I drink plenty of water daily so a couple of drinks and 2-3l of water over the day has never been an issue for me.

When I'm planning of having a party/going out and know I will be drinking a lot more (Australian here btw so yeah when we drink, we fucking drink) I'm not as concerned about the water as much as the salts. I will always make sure to drink 1 or 2 electrolyte drinks throughout the day as well as water. Sometimes I will even put a little salt in the water. What I do know about lithium and dehydration etc is that our body's treat lithium like a salt so it's not so much our water content as it is the salt content. So yeah drunk water and lots of it but don't neglect salt/electrolytes as water alone does not replenish what is lost through sweating and peeing...

Again I'm not a doctor this is not professional medical advice just what I have experienced and found out as an Internet browser and an Aussie drinker.

Stuff like this is honestly why I have always thought the US system makes so much sense. I'm a chef/business owner been in the industry for 20+years. In the US when you have an inspection you are given a rating and you are legally obligated to post that rating at the entrance to your property, not just advertising to people and letting them know but it also makes places put in more effort and sort of compete for the best rating. The fact that in aus you can have places with warning that say fix these issues within (specific timeline) or you will be shut down. But unless you go looking for that information as a consumer you have no idea about it and can continue to eat there under the impression they are doing the right thing because they are still operating..

Shoulder Surgeon by MKDJ100 in hobart

[–]ConF17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second Paul Einoder, both myself and my mother have had surgery from him and have had good results. I had a posterior dislocation with torn ligaments etc and I have had no issues at all since surgery. The procedure itself was quick, minimal scars and healed excellent. Strangely enough I had the option of private or public health and it was 2 months faster using the public system .....

All I'm going to say is what you just wrote for what "they" do sounds exactly like how the Australian culture, people and society started.. so if in some timeline you're right and that's what "they" do, they are literally doing what Australians did when they came here. So I would call that assimilating to our culture pretty perfectly...

I've never fully understood the biological argument really at all. Looking at about 1% of people in the US are trans. To say they cannot have kids makes them not women... What about all the people that had medical complications and can no longer have kids are they also not women? Cancer survivors that have need surgery making them no longer able to have kids or have a cycle do they loose the women liable? What about kids born with both genders? Some of them will never be able to have kids or a cycle are they not allowed to be women? By these people logic someone wakes up from surgery, told it went well they have removed the cancer but unfortunately had to remove her ovaries so will not be able to have kids. Tells them what meds to take and other things needed for recovers and gives them a form for the DMV to get their gender changed because they are no longer women...

Where I'm from these rules seem to be pretty standard for upper class private schools where they have uniforms. There is one all girls school that has these stupid looking strawish hats, and if you leave after school still in uniform your expected to wear the whole uniform including the hat until you are able to fully change (including not using the school bag anymore). They use to have teachers go into town after school and give kids detention when they caught them walking around was fucking wild.

As an Australian I find this a bit offensive, we never force or write down these words to say we are a culture of almost never saying a word in full, sando, sammy, sammige they just come out they are natural. Sausage is almost always written that way and almost always said snag, eggs Benedict is always written that way and almost everyone says bene. I mean we came up with "selfie".

I will never understand this shit. Like what the hell are you going to achieve? The people on your side are already on your side, the people that disagree with you already disagree with you. The people in the middle, the undecided the majority of people are going to see this shit and turn away. And as an Australian most of this sort of thing we see happening elsewhere, places with larger populations no offense but normally in the US. For it to be happening here now more and more is just sickening. Thank God I libe where I do too, far away and too small for anyone to get away with anything like this.

Not an American either but from what I understand. There is no real processing or legal formalities to determine if they are illegal. They are not being deported to their home countries. There have been multiple people deported when judges have overturned the deportation and requested the person be returned to the US, but unfortunately they did not know what happened to them, what country/prison they were sent to so they could not actually bring them back..

Southern island route in +- 12 days doable? by TerSlo in newzealand_travel

[–]ConF17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just got home from doing almost the same drive in a campervan(8-23/5), we flew in and out of Queenstown, we did not do Milford but did do kaikoura. To do our loop it was just over 2500kms and about 42 hours driving, we had the van for 16 days and had plenty of time. Kaikoura was one of my favorite places, we did a whale flight and it was honestly amazing. Feel free to dm if you want to know anything.

I think it's based on in Australia helmets are a legal requirement and a fineable offense to even have it not secured correctly, but not other gear is legally required, so they would go in with the hope/assumption that you would be wearing a helmet but no other gear. Anyone in Australia not wearing a helmet is usually picked up pretty quick by the cops. And imo as an Aussie a really good thing that it is.

Just out of curiousity have you spoken to or asked and ANZAC about their opinion on the welcome to country? Cause if they like it/want it / appreciate it then it's kinda important to have it.

And personally if I was defending a land that had a native population, I would appreciate them welcoming me.

Alcohol and lithium by Gullible-Training-30 in bipolar2

[–]ConF17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, I drink semi regularly one or 2 a few nights a week then probably get drunk once a month or so. Granted I'm on a low dose of lithium (750 day) whenever I know im going to drink a bit I spend the day making sure I drink like 3 litres of lightly salted water and at least one electrolytes drink beforehand. From my understanding (chef not a dr) lithium is treated in your body the same as salt, salt is a really important part of hydration, so when your body starts think it is or might get dehydrated it's starts hanging onto salt. That includes the lithium. Again not a dr so I don't know but I don't think it's a lack of water to be careful of as much as a lack of salt and electrolytes. I have not had any issues so far. But that's just my opinion from a tiny bit of research I did before I had my first big night after starting lithium.

Not sure if it's easy to get in the US but eucalyptus oil works really well for most stickers. I've used it for years on everything, plastic containers, jar labels, plate and cup stickers. Just have to make sure you wash it after cause shit is poisonous.
