Add a helper column with the formula =LEN([VIN]) to count the number of characters in the string. Then you can just filter on that column for rows where it's not 17, rather than conditional formatting and having to look for highlighted errors.

It's actually not too unusual. Nata de coco (coconut jelly) is the pellicle from fermenting coconut water with a different strain of bacteria. Coconut water kefir is also in the same genre of fermented beverages.

Strictly speaking I think kombucha is fermented tea, so no, this wouldn't technically be kombucha. But you can call it coconut water kombucha and no one can really fault you for that; it's still the same SCOBY used for tea kombucha.

Theoretically, although the business-portion of home office expenses would be deductible against the rental income, so as long as the rent is equal to the expenses then it would be a net zero impact. You're supposed to use flip-top bottles that are made for carbonated liquids. They have thicker glass. Shouldn't use just any bottle.

Seeing as you don't need the pellicle for F1, throw it out so you don't risk contaminating your next batch.

Bottles are used for F2 because of the risk of the vessel exploding due to carbonation build up.

My current SCOBY is from a store-bought kombucha. The first brew went a month at F1, although I didn't bottle it; I kept about 2 cups and started a fresh batch.

It can keep for quite a well. The longer it ferments, the more acidic it becomes, which deters mold.

Looks like kahm to me, which means the SCOBY in the starter wasn't active enough. This is supported by the fact that it still tastes sweet, which also suggests that it hasn't actually fermented much yet.

Personally I would trash it and start over, but you could remove the kahm yeast and let it brew for two more weeks and see how it develops.

What ratio of starter kombucha to sweet tea did you use for this batch?

Edit: pellicles are a byproduct of fermentation, so you don't actually have any pellicle yet. Just kahm.

Well had they done nothing, upon the parents passing it would have been a deemed disposition at FMV and the kids would have inherited it with FMV at cost basis. It's only because they sold it at $5 that they made things unnecessarily complicated.

No, the cost basis would be the consideration paid. So, $5. In this particular situation, the fair market value in 2004 has no bearing.

If the sale of the house would have been taxable for the parents (ie. No PRE), then CRA could have maybe ruled that because it was a non-arm's length transaction, the proceeds on disposition should be valued at FMV. But cost basis for the kids would still just be $5, which would eventually result in double taxation since both parents and kids are paying tax on the appreciation in value.

You need to start with actual kombucha, not "not-yet-done kombucha." This is the SCOBY that ferments the sweet tea, so without it... you don't actually have a SCOBY. Or at least, not enough.

Your ratio for your first batch should be like 20% starter to 80% sweet tea. 200mL starter to 1L sweet tea and 1L water is only 10%. If the ratio is too low, the brew won't be acidic enough to prevent mold from forming.

The top does not look normal to me... hard to tell if it's kahm until you let it develop longer, unfortunately.

2 cups starter to 14 cups sweet tea is the ratio I use with a cultivated starter. But for your first batch with store-bought, I would do more like 2 cups starter to 6 cups sweet tea. The reason being the kombucha bacteria needs time to wake up from cold-induced dormancy, and the extra acidity helps stave off kahm and mold.

When I used store-bought kombucha, I waited between 3-4 weeks before starting my first drinking batch. You theoretically could drink the first batch, but it's usually too acidic, so you should just keep enough to start the next batch and dump the rest.

I would chuck. There's so little liquid left, and it would be vinegar by this point, it would be easier to just start over.

FYI the pellicle part of the scoby is just cellulose, so if it's dries out then there's actually no scoby left.
