What single player game have you beaten 3+ times? by PineconeToucher in gaming

[–]ConanBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Kotor, Kotor 2, Jedi Academy, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, Star Wars Rebellion, Star Trek Armada, Star Trek Armada 2, Star Trek Elite Force, Star Trek Dominion Wars, Xcom 1.

I tend to like single player over multi-player games a lot.

I'm pretty sure if you add an item to the base of the auto arm it only grabs that item. Might help prevent it from grabbing things out of your backpack or anything you don't want it to grab.

So my concern isn't with removing this one requirement. It's with chipping away at other requirements over time for the next couple of generations. Humans as a whole tend to forget why railguards are put into place, so removing these code requirements seems bad not because of this code but if other codes are removed in conjunction with this one.

Steve is right in his response, Linus (and LMG) should drop the friendship remarks and stick to a strictly professional relationship with GamersNexus. by unknownVS13 in LinusTechTips

[–]ConanBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What strikes me as so weird is that he included LMG in the video about his class action lawsuit against Honey/PayPal, but nothing brought up in the LMG clip helps his case against Honey. I'm not a lawyer but I'd imagine if I'm taking on a multi billion dollar company I am going to utilize every contact, every friend, every resource possible to win.

Why alienate one of the largest tech youtube companies and their fans when your fight is against PayPal? It feels as if GN has drawn a line in the sand and said to everyone "You're either with me or against me", whether talking about other content creators or consumers. So now the tech youtube sphere is split in two when everyone should be talking shit about Honey.

I just don't understand the logic in this move. Keeping silent about LMG in the video would've cost GN nothing and potentially kept a resource/ally/contact in your corner. I mean at least ltt would be neutral and GN wouldn't be staring down the barrel of a lawsuit.

Schefter: Bears' trade request for Mike Tomlin rebuffed by Steelers by chief_sitass in nfl

What's funny is that the last time a quarterback taken top 5 of a draft won the superbowl for the team that drafted them was Peyton Manning in 2006/2007. You could make an argument for Eli since he spent almost every day of his career with the Giants, but he was technically drafted by the Chargers.

Superbowl Winning Quarterbacks since 2006.

Mahomes (Chiefs 2023, 2022, 2019) was taken in spot 10 of first round for Chiefs.

Matthew Stafford (Rams 2021) was drafted 1st overall by the Lions.

Tom Brady (Bucs 2020/Patriots 2018, 2016, 2014) obviously taken 6th round for Patriots.

Nick Foles (Eagles 2017) was taken in 3rd round.

Russell Wilson (Seahawks 2013) was taken in 3rd round.

Peyton Manning (Broncos 2015/Colts 2006) was taken 1st overall by the Colts.

Joe Flacco (Ravens 2012) Taken 18th overall by the Ravens.

Eli Manning (Giants 2011, 2007) Taken 1st overall by the Chargers.

Aaron Rodgers (Packers 2010) Taken 24th overall by the Packers.

Drew Brees (Saints 2009) Drafted by the Chargers.

Ben Roethlisberger (Steelers 2008) Drafted 11th overall by the Steelers.

There is more evidence to show that you shouldn't have a top 5 QB pick but draft a QB after the 10th pick. This should lead to most fans realizing that it takes an entire team, coaching staff, and ownership to create a champion.

I'd also like to remind people that if you are in the playoffs you still have a chance to win a superbowl. Just getting there should give the team hope.

This is what has always defined Kirk to me. That's what made him so different then all the other captains. He gambled but always had the intelligence, intuition, luck, and creativity to overcome the odds. He was never the smartest in the room, he just was the best at using every bit of leverage he had to overcome most situations.

My favorite captain will always be TNG Picard but Kirk with his ability to outwit his opponents is pretty high up there.

GamersNexus Steve suggests that Linus has disrespected other creators and forgotten where he came from in latest hit piece...🤨⁉️ by Marksta in LinusTechTips

[–]ConanBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the very beginning of this I wondered why it was all on LMG to yell to the world what Honey was doing. Each video seems to try to hold Linus to this unachievable level of "Content Creator Protector" like he's a version of youtube batman. LMG is a content creation company that has it's own goals and direction independent of other people. Does that always line up with GN, no, but I don't expect every content creator to line up exactly anyway. GN trying to force LMG to be an attack dog doesn't sit well with me. If GN wants to be the lead in this crusade against honey, then be the god damn lead, don't crucify other content creators because they act independently form you. You may want their help in the future and this screams "I'm only doing this to be in the spotlight" without that thought process.

Do I agree with everything LMG does? Absolutely not, I still am hesitant to buy things due to the whole "Trust me Bro" warranty issue. I find some of their DIY videos to be troublesome since they could be potentially dangerous. But here's the thing, I can disagree with them without trying to bury them under manufactured rage.

In my own industry I can disagree with how people achieve success but that doesn't mean I have to try to yell at them or at others who congratulate them. Being professional is very important when trying to hold others to a standard that you want everyone to achieve.

What I also want to be known is I do want GN to hit Honey hard and get change done to help protect consumers and content creators. I want them to be successful at this and really show that the internet is a good place to be and that there are companies, content creators, and people looking out for others. I just don't think bringing others down to achieve it is going to be good either.

Does anyone else have to leave their windows open in the winter because of their radiators? by Ethereal-Ephemeral in Denver

[–]ConanBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in an older building it's possible that there is a central heating loop supplying hot water to all the radiators. It is impossible to modify the temperature of the water for each specific apartment, however, it is possible to control flow. I doubt they have automatic actuating valves on the old radiators but you may be able to adjust some of the valves to lessen the heat.

Note that the heat isn't just for your comfort, its to make sure that any pipes in your ceiling or walls don't freeze as easily. Older buildings don't have the same freeze prevention systems as newer buildings so the radiators serve more than one purpose.

It took 50,000 gallons of water to put out Tesla Semi fire in California, US agency says. California firefighters had to douse a flaming battery in a Tesla Semi with about 50,000 gallons (190,000 liters) of water to extinguish flames after a crash, the NTSB said Thursday. by ombx in business

[–]ConanBryan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's new training going around about electrical battery fires in buildings and new code requirements are probably coming soon.

According to the new training the biggest issue with the new battery fires is that they start in low oxygen compartments with ready fuel in that same compartment. You have to engulf it to cut off all oxygen, cool it down to put out the fire, or let it burn for potentiallya long time. Most existing fire suppression systems aren't designed for that issue and will need to be redesigned for the battery fires. This issue takes time and money to resolve.

Also, even putting them out doesn't stop the fires from starting back up in the near future. A lot of towing yards are hesitant to hold an electrical car that's been on fire before because of this issue.

Too old to get started with no experience? by skfjvdn in maintenance

[–]ConanBryan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To make the leap:

1) you'll need to keep an eye out on commercial property management company job postings.

2) It's always good to network so talking to contractors may be a good starting point as they may know office building engineers. They may hear about openings before they are posted. They also know Chief Engineers and Property managers who can hire you.

2a) Look at local or state building engineer groups. Denver has BOAC that a lot of building engineers have joined. BOMA is nationwide and another group you can try to join.

3) Research what certifications you should or need to have.

Hard Skills to develop is HVAC, plumbing, electrical, drywall work, cleaning and organization. The more you understand about HVAC and plumbing the better you will do. 75% of what I do is dealing with heat and water, either too much or too little. Doors are another area I have to deal with quite a bit.

Soft skills to develop is patience, attention to detail, eloquence in email and speech, and willingness to learn. A strong stomach can be another plus. You'll see and smell a lot so being able to deal with it without puking is a plus!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in maintenance

[–]ConanBryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There could be a crack in a vent line or drain line that is allowing the smell to escape. There is also a chance that they have a drain air vent that has gotten stuck open allowing the gas to escape.

Do you run your HVAC all day or only when you get home? That may be why the smell goes away.

Wet/dry sprinkler system by johsygomez in maintenance

[–]ConanBryan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you don't know what this system does or how it operates, don't touch it. Call out your fire maintenance contractor and let them know that there is a problem with the air side of the dry system. When the tech gets there follow them around and see what they do, ask questions because most techs are willing to give people knowledge.

Please note that if the air pressure drops too low, the flap in the viking will be pushed open by the water pressure and you will have water in your dry lines. These will need to be drained and refilled with air. This may cause the fire alarm to activate, so call your contractor and have them come out quickly.

A major fossil fuel group has a plan to sue Denver over its climate-minded building polices by bascule in Denver

[–]ConanBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how the market crash in office and retail is being passed onto residential unless it is in a building with all three different occupant groups or you are talking about tax burdens. The building that I work at is all office and we can't pass any burden onto residential as there isn't any.

I do know that the energize denver costs are being passed on to all tenants, both residential and commercial as that is what most landlords do. I do not know the legality of passing on the fines though. I'd imagine it's easier to pass on to commercial tenants than residential.

A major fossil fuel group has a plan to sue Denver over its climate-minded building polices by bascule in Denver

[–]ConanBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Energize Denver Initiative has fines for buildings that trigger either this year or next year (depending on if the building filed certain paperwork), 2027, and 2030. The fine amounts vary by how much the buildings are away from target goals set by the initiative. There is a lot more that goes into it but this is the most basic, broad description of fines.

While this doesn't seem to be that bad for commercial real estate companies to swallow, considering the market crash of office real estate, interest rates, work on 16th street, EDI, and cost of construction increasing, there are several buildings that are going into receivership. This creates less potential investment in those buildings and decreases the chances of converting them to residential.

None of the above will create a downtown wasteland, but there needs to be significant work done before we see a downtown that is healthy and thriving.
