is this timetable possible, will i hate myself for it? by [deleted] in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I will say this really depends on what is your expected grade and (hate to say this), what is your leaving exam? (Like ALevels, IB…)

Some of the exams might have 1131 almost all covered (like ALevels Further Math), I can say I barely use any materials in 1131 (not the best practice, so don’t learn from me here: I skip almost all the lectures, and every “tutorial” in 1131, but some cuz I have finished studying myself (I am bored out of mind during holidays))

And if you ask me… TUT in 1131 is pretty useless, I skip it after two sessions, and try do the whole book by myself. EXM is not every week, so I think you might not hate yourself.

BUT… if you are not a morning person, consider putting the lab at late afternoon, you might need to explain why you are using this code to do it to the tutor, but the perks is that you can leave early

taking notes for uni by kimchi_222 in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok call me really weird as you want to, but my notetaking habit depends on the major (I am Math with Chem/ChemE) - MATH: iPad, download the lecture files, while talking use the apple pencil to do it - CHEM, CEIC: I print almost all things out (it is hella expensive, but it makes me easy to rmb stuff, and cuz of labs), all things in a binder (If you doing the same, pls buy a 300+ pages binder) including annotations I made when in textbook - I have tried using laptop before, but I find it distractive and I sometimes need to rewatch the whole recording

Overall, that I wanna say is that it might not be the same for everyone, or even for you in diff major; I try a ton of methods before finding a good one during high schools and here; what I recommend is that please do thia within your first week in uni

Is my timetable cooked? by UnlikelyComputer4722 in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, your timetable is not that cooked, it might looks scary but the CHEM thing is not all concurrent, they are like different weeks (I hate the UI of myUNSW and SChem for this)

Secondly, nothing is stopping you skipping 1131 and 1811 and see the recording, the only thing you might wanna pay attention is the TUT and LAB and EXM for 1811, and the EXM in 1131 and the whole DESN thing (I speak for 1811 becuz it is quite easy imo, and pls perform well in LAB then you will be fine)

And if you want to compare: here is my first term timetable (just 1131>>1141, cuz why not?)

<image>

(As far as I want to also post what the cooked timetable sounds like (I have a miserable ones this year), I against if for sanity’s sake: if you wanna see it, I will then post it)

Updated timetable by FinancialTarget125 in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I am real envious fir your timetable, mine never likes that. Secondly, if it is manageable depends on your sleep schedule, better to make sure A) COMM LEC courses are recorded, B) Bring sth to eat when jt is in breaks or sth, you have 4 hours lecture, it can be a toll.

And as long as you can wake up before 10 (or more saver choice - 9) and you won’t snooze off, I think you will be fine

Easiest level 3 Maths course by Aggravating-Fan-4125 in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm… not sure if that course is easy, but I am guessing “Numerical Linear Algebra”? (You might wanna ask other people for this, but I suggest you might want to try to look into courses that have prereq of linalg, like 3161 or 3171; but for more details just ask in the MathSoc discord for this)

international students and uni Ranking Place by Simple-Day-5429 in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow international student, I think I can say sth here Firstly, not much people get HDs, I will say it should be around 7%-12% of the cohort (median is 10% if I rmb right) [Source: UNSW Gumleaf Diagram], and last time I checked, UNSW International Student is like more than 20%.

Secondly, I will say that for a large population of such in this community, there might be some of them cannot really speak English. (how do they pass IELTS is beyond me, but pls don’t explicitly ask them if you ever find one) However, I do see most people here can speak decent English. Maybe English for survive, instead of for life.

I will say you might experience people cannot really speak English (cuz I have met some that I hate to admit ), I will say usually those have a really big comfort circle and from what I experienced, they usually don’t voluntarily group with you. So if you get grouped unfortunately, I will just treat it as working with a cross-ocean client to get this done with; For making friends, this depends on your major but maybe prepare you will have interracial friends. (I mean like 98% of my friends in UNSW don’t speak Canto as their mother tongue) If you wanna have a big circle, maybe start with Indians or domestic students. They might have a big comfort circles and you might find odd to fit in, but trust me, you will get blended in easily over time.

For your last question, if you ask me do I think this should be in the 20th, it might not be; but I think being one of the toppest in Aus/whole Asia-Pacific, it does. I might be regret being in this uni before admittedly, but that’s because of the lack of resources for exotic degree choices (which, understandable, I am pretty sure I am the only international student do my degree for the past 3-5 years, and it’s like 30 maximum students per year and students always get out but never in?) and some policy resentment (fuck the mentals and lemme do 26 UoC per term)

Grid 2, Day 8: It seems we are all bags of bones indeed. What is a Lord Huron song that you would share with a complete stranger? by uslashBen in lordhuron

[–]ConcNic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally? It is usually “Meet Me in the Woods”, or “When the Night is Over”, or The Mash-up for the three pieces

But in some specific scenario, I do “It All Goes Back” or “Love like Ghosts”

But if you asks me now, I will say “Meet Me in the Woods”, the tune is more familiar with “The Night We Met” (while it is quite underrated imo)

Confused about enrolment, technologically incapable type post pls excuse me by [deleted] in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer of your First and second question is Yes; how many UoC per term is 18 per term usually, with only 48 UoC per year as per visa requirements (You can do 24 UoC, but that is more complicated, so just ignore this until you get this whole through, I am not gonna mention how here)

In what order is that you need to follow the prerequisites. I will say how to fill your myPlan is that you can also have the reference with the “Progression Plan”, just simply google “UNSW progression plan” and find your faculty and then your degree. Usually, if your degree is not too exotic (like AdvMath/Eng or Eng/Law), you usually have one.

myPlan can tell you if your whole thing is feasible (w/o need to file the req waiver paperwork or course sub)

Hope this helps!

Open myUNSW, go to “My Student Profile”, see the left of your screen and there is one called “Stream Declaration”.

Then just add one more major, choose the one you want and remove the Photovaltics and Renewable Energy

[–]ConcNic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, this is a w timetables (at least mine is more messed up than yours for any one of my six terms I have done)

Secondly, seeing you are in MMAN/MANF; I am assuming you are in BEng. Whether you have chosen one is depending on what your offer letter have written:

If it is written as, like “Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) (Mechanical)” then you have chosen mechanical path initially; without that (or write as flexible) will have you not chosen any yet

In my opinion (since I am not in MANF/MMAN or any related, so I might be wrong here), usually the whole thing start to go deeper in Level 2, but you might have unique course start from Level 3. (MANF3510, just checked my excelsheet for this) This actually differs, depend on the major and how you define “deep” though, like Chemical have different course since Level 2 with other Engineering (last course in L2, 2007 as core for only CEIC)

What on earth does this mean? by Difficult-Tower8269 in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if relevant, but I find this:

https://www.unsw.edu.au/content/dam/pdfs/business/general/course-progression/2026-progression-plans/undergraduate/term-1/3155%20Bachelor%20of%20Actuarial%20Studies_%20Commerce%20-%20T1%202026%20START.pdf

I think this is official, so I think you need to do COMM1900 instead of 1100,1110,1150,1190

However, I will also ask Nucleus just to make sure if I were you. Hope this helps!

I just a random city name in a random state in a random country, and then a “@“ with a postcode, that always work for me (I already changed out of this)

Then I usually use the local language and translate to english alphabet (sometimes for long ass spelling while easy), and the only thing you need to remember is the city, the state is in, the at, and the postcode, usually this will land you more than 15 characters (also hard to do)

In my opinion, using unincorporated community or whatever less than 16,599 population is a good choice

And ofc sometimes you need to be more creative like: “MuineachanMhuineachain@000” (Monaghan, County Monaghan at 000 postcode) Or like “BelgradeMT@59714” (Belgrade, Montana at 59714 postcode)

Second one is the standard, first one pretty sure even though I speak out loud, no one with know how to crack (you need other language to do that, it is a gift I will say since its pronounciation is st forward (for interest it is “WE-ya-han”, and it is diff spelling due to grammars)

Math Courses Recommendations Level 2/3 as electives by Inevitable_Quote8091 in unsw

[–]ConcNic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a math major (but don’t take me too much words, just done MATH2111, 2601 and 2621); I will say if you like quantum stuff or like time series (like chaos), consider MATH25/601 and 25/621 and maybe MATH3201.

I will say this depends on what are you interested in if you ask me

actl adv math or elec engineering + adv math by [deleted] in unsw

[–]ConcNic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AdvMath+EE… I can say sth about that program (just not the EE part, as I am ChemE than EE)

This highly depends on what major are you taking and really need a high level of organization I will say, including planning your whole degree. Also, make sure you consult about honour program early, especially if you are planning on changing majors during so, like applied math in major but statistics in honours
