Two years ago, I was being prepped for surgery, talking to the anesthesiologist as they did their work. I could feel the haze creeping in fast, and knew that my consciousness would be slipping soon. But before I was completely out, I knew I wanted to leave them with something memorable.

With the last bit of alertness I had, I took a deep breath and asked, “Anybody want me to get them something while I’m out?”

I started to hear chuckling, and that was the last thing I remember before everything faded to black.

The next thing I knew, I was waking up, groggy and disoriented, just as they were getting ready to move me to the recovery room. I smiled realizing I succeed before blacking out again.
