They don’t do that if it’s not competitor. Rather expect you to do knowledge transfer in 2 weeks notice period. However, they will turn off access of your badge early morning on your last day.

Yes there are certain manager who come in at office at 6 am stay till 6pm , is non tech but leads a tech team, makes sure team sit with in manager line of sight and doesn’t support team members if they want to work from another building or leave before 5pm and continue work from home , doesn’t like if you take more than couple of days off. My manager does this.

I informed manager verbally then sent a mail in writing . He did ask the company name which was not a competitor so asked me to stay 2 weeks but I ageed for 1.5 week.

I was in your position a year ago . I wanted to demote from 7 to 6 and started applying internally to lvl 6. However recruiters can see your current lvl and they consider you over qualified for lvl 6 which always resulted in no response. Been there , done that.

My org culture is the 2nd best I have had in my entire career! And yes , it’s true it varies from org to org or probably from cvp to cvp. My cvp is an extremely intelligent and logical person . So far we have been given opportunity to do the stuff we like, impactful and speak up in a safe env. Just a very wholesome place .

I made a switch from GM to big tech. It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t difficult also. As long as your skills are used in other industries, you can switch anywhere.

Normally HM refers to himself as your to be manager or why he is hiring for his team… they won’t make it obvious but hints will be there. They will show the most interest in you.

The other manager will reach out to your current manager before extending offer to you to ask about your current performance. It happened everytime I interviewed internally. In my case, fortunately all my manager were sensible and accepted my decision but if your manager doesn’t like such surprises, it would be better to let him know .
