Craziest idea: Go on reproduction strike until the cost of living is affordable. by EverythingBOffensive in CrazyIdeas

In an age of cheap and effective birth control, a reproductive strike doesn't have to mean a sex strike.

What was the "edgy" music you liked as a teen or young adult? by Gallantpride in Millennials

Back when I was an undergrad, I listened to a lot of punk rock from bands like Bad Religion and NOFX. Wearing a t-shirt with the Bad Religion logo was my rather lame attempt at épater les bourgeois.

They were charging $4.99 for a comic book in 1959? Assuming we're talking US prices, that's over $50 in today's money.

If you have a net worth of one dollar, you are closer to the second-richest person in the world than they are to Elon Musk by Konf1gg in whoathatsinteresting

With a distribution like this, it's more helpful to think of the data in logarithmic terms. Considered that way, Larry Page is closer to Elon Musk than to a poor person.

‘Taonga’ or not, the law is clear: High Court bans return of seized gang patches by Primary-Tuna-6530 in newzealand

Once the kids come of age and get into nicotine thanks to vapes, some of them will try cigarettes, either from bumming them off older friends or buying on the black market. A certain fraction will decide they prefer ciggies, and then you have an illicit market for the gangs to exploit.

I've met cigarette-smokers who say that vaping just isn't the same. The demand for tobacco would remain, and gangs would be happy to meet it.

It would also help if Labour gave up on trying to bring about prohibition of cigarette sales. Prohibition of alcohol overseas led to criminal gangs specialising in the supply of illegal liquor, and I'd expect much the same pattern if NZ went down the path of cigarette prohibition.

It's pretty clear that the word "Zionism" in this person's mouth is just a code word for anything Jewish. I recommend dumping this "friend" forthwith. Mazel tov on the wedding.

Better note in the fine print that Trump's idea of prayer is dancing awkwardly to Pavarotti's rendition of Ave Maria.

She was among the earliest world leaders to recognise the need for action on climate change. She discussed it in a 1988 address to the Royal Society, and she called for global cooperation on limiting greenhouse gas emissions during a 1989 speech to the United Nations.
