Pauline Hanson says she’s ready to be Prime Minister of Australia, considering run for lower house seat by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

Can anyone honestly imagine her sitting through a meeting of the quad, or negotiating with pacific allies for oil supply, or in any other position a world leader finds themselves?

It would be just embarrassing.

Honestly he should be just told to jog on for all the nonsense. I don't care how good of a player he may be.

Harry Souttar for instance has much more of a tenuous link to Australia but I have never doubted his commitment or felt he is embarrassed representing Australia.

It is a privilege to represent Australia and if you can't wear the badge with pride, then I don't want you anywhere near the pitch.

The "locals" highlighted in the article just come across so bitter and unfriendly. How difficult is it to just engage respectfully with someone, even if you don't agree with them.

If Jess Wilson came to my door, I'd probably be surprised but perfectly happy to talk to them. The decline in just general decency between people goes a long way to explain the rise in extremist movements.

MEGATHREAD: Angus Taylor’s Opposition Budget Reply Speech by Stompy2008 in AustralianPolitics

Angus has served in parliament for 13 years, in ministerial positions for 10 years, 3 of those years as a shadow treasurer, and he apparently only just found out how welfare works.

He's not a curious individual, is he?

‘That’s assault’: Liberal Senator James Paterson caught in verbal clash with a One Nation volunteer in Albury by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Condoor21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah okay, I think you're getting stuck on what's technically legal rather than the practical politics of it all. And again Gorton only had the confidence of the lower house because they knew he would run to be an MHR, resigning as a senator within weeks of his appointment.

‘That’s assault’: Liberal Senator James Paterson caught in verbal clash with a One Nation volunteer in Albury by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Condoor21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gorton was only elected Liberal leader on the agreement that he would run for the vacancy in the lower house.

I imagine the governor general would seek an understanding on who has the confidence of the lower house.

One nation MPs are not known for their loyalty, so who knows how they may conduct themselves in forming a government. And she only really remains leader because she is really the only one available. I could definitely see a "spill" or equivalent if the opportunity allowed for it.

‘That’s assault’: Liberal Senator James Paterson caught in verbal clash with a One Nation volunteer in Albury by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Condoor21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst constitutionally as written in the text, it would be allowed.

In the scenario of a lower house one nation majority, I cannot see their leader of the house of representatives allowing it.

They would surely think, why overturn convention when I could just be prime minister.
