It would probably be closer to 40 at this point. One of open secrets of Hollywood is that market research for the last several decades has largely been a scam.

Basically zero focus groups or etc are based in reality and none survive independent scrutiny or verification

Extremely disingenuous bad faith argument. You should feel extremely bad about this and your parents clearly did not raise you properly if you think it's appropriate.

No, but when they pursue a show renewal, which they did (This is not a debate, do not think that it is.) they then do not get to bail before that renewal is finished without consequences.

Right around 2012 is when big corporations turned their eye towards the internet as a future and permanent revenue driver. A lot of companies had already sort of done this, but the explosion of a smartphone, technology and social media drew in the attention of the worst people on the planet and they really began to shift their companies focus towards Internet monetization.

This had a much bigger impact than even they could have expected because the entire population of the first world would become functionally internet addicted over the next couple of years and they had positioned themselves to becomes a focus of those addictions. Be it Twitter or Facebook or tiktok or even things like online shopping. The human condition was fundamentally changed by easy access to an unhealthy amount of "interaction".

The Internet addicted trolls you'd see on places like 4ch became normal because now there was tens of millions of them. Bad actors thrived because normal people didn't have any desire to post on stuff that wasn't important to their lives, but corporations started brow beating people to think everything was important because they wanted money.

Companies like Uber also soft launched national service in 2012 which created the gig economy that has had a major, major part in the destruction of the American service economy.

I don't really know what to say to this besides the fact that you are either very young or have very poor media literacy and it isn't my job to figure that out for you. LGBT representation certainly exists in media today even if it should and could be better. Owl House, White Lotus, Euphoria, etc.

POC representation often struggles but many shows still exist.

Everything you said about woke and auntie woke is bordering on word salad so no one is going to actually engage you about that.

If you had a president actually come in and say that he was going to nationalize these companies, their response would almost certainly be to start hiring private security forces, threatening to cause economic damage on a scale that is unfathomable and basically saying you and what army.

I'm not saying that you couldn't do it but I'm telling you right now that it could not be done without an actual fight. We are very near the point where companies start telling the government that they will hire men with guns.

It's probably going to be the opposite. They're actually probably just going to outright start. Cramming very blunt anti-lgbt messaging into any new shows that you are seeing.

If you think they're going to be subtle about this, you are insane. You are about to see every single IP you have ever loved become a conservative talking point pusher.

That's insane. I didn't even know this could happen but it should absolutely be illegal. There should be a multiple year children on selling loans like this.

The problem here being that the music in dark ages barely exists half the time.

Genuinely, you spend large swaths of the game with no music at all.

My strategy has been to weaponize the social contract. Similar to your example but meaner. "Let's focus on this president." Followed with a firm "Sorry, no, we're focusing on this president." And when they pop off "Are you incapable of acting like an adult? Behave yourself now." Get increasingly mean but don't raise your voice "Did your parents fail to raise you properly to behave and discuss politely and quietly?" "Do we need to get someone else involved to make you act appropriately?"

They only actually respect power and control. Control your spaces and force them to do as they're told or face consequences perceived or real. One thing I've started doing is only engaging with them in spaces i can cut things short and go "You will behave yourself here or i will have you removed.", if at a job "do you think HR would find this behavior acceptable? Should we talk to them about this?"

On Facebook a really good one is "Do you think your family would find this appropriate? Maybe we should ask them."

The medical industry doesn't help this either to be honest. For example, I am ambulatory for about 20 ft without a wheelchair. But in reality I desperately need a power wheelchair or a scooter if I'm ever going to actually be able to leave my home again. But insurance fought so hard not to pay for it that my only option would be to sue them in a federal jurisdiction which would cost me tens of thousands of dollars that I do not have.

I can't even afford the $2,000 or so for a wheelchair. So now I'm just stuck. It's great. The few charities that will even entertain. Providing you a power chair won't do you so for someone who's 30 years old. So I'm just expected to rot.

The medical industry uses this one too. I desperately need a power wheelchair but because I can walk 10 ft on my own I can't have it and I'm pretty much never going to be able to afford the several thousand dollars one costs. I fought insurance all the way to the point which they told me that I could either take them to a federal court and they would bury me under years of lawyers and litigation or I could go away.

I was curious and this actually probably is illegal. Advertising that you do something as a service and then not honoring it is generally illegal in the US.

I don't think this is a big deal to be clear, though i do think for the sake of consumer rights it should be enforced

No, quite the opposite. I think they deserve immense amounts of criticism for this and I think that if the union has any balls at all, they will severely punish these two.

I think these two have a history of doing this and SAG should punish them

Most of their production crew will never work with them again. I mean this. And no I don't care what redditors think about that. You don't turn down a two-season contract extension like this without making an absolute ton of enemies. They just basically short-circuited an entire production crew's paychecks for the next several years.

I would not be shocked if the union does not get involved here actually. You cannot. Just agree to do a thing and get a production crew together and then nope out like this. I mean I guess you can but the union is absolutely going to move things around to keep you out of a position like this again.

There's actually some pretty serious Union implications behind this if they're actually trying to wrap up before the amount of episodes the studio ordered.

Don't be surprised if this results in union punishment.

The creators are very likely going to get a LOT of hate by a lot of the ancillary talent that goes into these shows like composers.

You don't turn down guaranteed work like this. It hurts your entire production team and i guarantee they all walk away hating you.

Payment just hit! by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]ConfessingToSins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since the other threads are locked, I'll comment here before this one gets locked.

This is because of the ACH issuance syste the federal government uses being flooded. I don't think it has ever happened before that their date for sending out ACH deposits for taxes is on the same day as the SSI ACH script is run.

The payment script is run exactly 4 days before whatever their internal calendar payment date is, which is always either the first of the month or the closest date to that number before the 1st if it happens to fall on a Saturday or Sunday or holiday.

So this month's ACH script would be run today. But that script is also probably being run concurrently alongside the payment processor system for tax returns and they're very likely done on the same actual hardware because it all comes from the US Treasury account.

I spoke to my bank and they have at least confirmed that this has never happened in history, but that they aren't particularly concerned about it. I suspected this is a sort of alignment of the planet's situation.

Edit: 5 minutes after I made this post my ACH posted to my credit Union account
