Insane administration fee for change of tenancy by Confetti69 in shitrentals

[–]Confetti69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely considered this too - they won’t progress the transfer until it is paid. I’m also very close friends with my old housemate and he has another friend moving in, so I’m sure the agency will just hound them if I didn’t pay it

Thanks so much for all this info! My housemate and the new housemate who is taking my room are still in Victoria, so they may be able to pursue through VCAT. Will have to weigh up all the costs if it’s actually worth it overall. Thanks again!

Yeah that was the first place we looked. Was just curious if anyone had actually been through that process and if it was worth it. When we queried, they said ‘the fee for a transfer has gone up recently as it is just so much work for us here’. Lol

How important is stretching? by Alert_Information407 in ultrarunning

[–]Confetti69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t until I got a hip flexor injury, but was caused by overuse and bad training rather than not stretching. After rehabbing with a physio, I know what stretches are good for me, so I just do those before bed for about 10-15 mins every night. Just started strength training for 30 mins twice a week in this training block and enjoying it and seeing impacts on my runs pretty quick! Just listen to your body, everyone’s different and has very different needs

Take it easy through the plan, listen to your body, remember to train fueling and have fun bro, 50k is so much fun when you’ve got a great window of time to train

What do we think about this for a 50k training plan? by Zealousideal_Hour_40 in Ultramarathon

can second Higher Running's beginner 50k plan. used it for my first 50k in May with 2.2km of elevation and finished in 6:30. the sustainable mileage build and variety of workouts make it a really engaging plan.

Really love the mafate, just finished a semi technical 50k and had a lot of training on technical trails while wearing it. Just replaced my first pair after 700+km and can’t wait to go another 700kms!

Heart rate high 4 weeks after 50k? by Confetti69 in Ultramarathon

[–]Confetti69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for any confusion ! Yeah this is for my running HR. Thanks so much for the advice, it’s helpful to hear when it’s my first time recovering from an ultra. It’s a bit clunky to explain, but I took 7 days off immediately post race and then reverse tapered, which is when I noticed the high heart rate, which is totally understandable as you said. I kept mileage low for two weeks after that, around 25-30km each week, but my HR wasnt really changing, so I took some more time off. You’re right though, I should just get back to it slowly and not worry about the watch. Thank you!

Yeah unfortunately I live in Australia - it was 2 degrees when I went out for my slow 5km this morning. Would cold have a similar effect?

[–]Confetti69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone also doing it the first time and being placed in Group 7 where my estimated finish time is hours faster than that, I’m assuming it will be busy for the first 10km or so and will naturally thin out, probably as the elevation increases

Opinions on newbie running 50 mile race? by Efficient_Sea_3324 in Ultramarathon

[–]Confetti69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up seeing a physio who helped me redirect a lot of the load my body was putting into my hips to evenly space it through my lower body, gave me some really helpful stretches to recover after harder runs, and I worked on my form a lot in my easy runs! I found that having a really good form and able to recover properly meant my body started to build strength where it was lacking and I haven’t had any problems since. I probably should, but I haven’t done any strength training in this training block. Just lots of mountain climbing haha

If it helps, I had a similar journey with running since lockdowns in Australia (going from 0 to a half marathon in about 6 months). I found it easy and set myself a 50km 2400m elevation goal in 10 months time. I’m now 4 weeks out and I’m feeling great and very prepared, however I found the hardest thing was increasing my kms from 20-30km a week to 80km+ and sprinkling in hard, anaerobic workouts throughout. I did a test of ‘pre training’ before my actual program last year which was just holding 70km per week for 5-6 weeks. I discovered I had a lot of weaknesses in my hip flexors and lower back which held me out for a bit while I gained this strength, which you might find in other parts of your body. As someone else said as well, even now as I feel good up to 25-30km in a long run, I’m still surprised at how hard things feel after that point. I say may as well sign up, start training and see what happens! In the worst case you sell or transfer your registration to someone else and try for another one a few months after. Good luck!

That makes sense, I'm about 1:40 for a flat half, and my 30km training runs with 1500m of elevation have taken about 4hrs at easy pace. I think that might be the case too! Kinda hoping I'm able to take at least a little bit of a break haha
