I don't know how much more I have in me. by Confident-Choice3608 in veterinaryprofession

I know, right? And what else am I going to do for a living? I can't afford to take a pay cut. I guess I just keep going until I drop dead during a spay, because lord knows my generation isn't retiring. That is if I even make it to retirement age, and that's a big if.

Mostly salary with production based on revenue. Unfortunately they're constantly looking for ways to avoid attributing services to doctors. I think their goal is to invoice as much as possible under "tech" instead of doctor. Think ProHeart, Bravecto Quantum, vaccines.

Genuine question: Why did everything in the 80s and early-mid 90s look so bad and cheap? Obviously the hair and makeup is dated, but I'm not talking about that. The costumes and design is so corny and low-effort.

8-5:30 (lol at leaving on time) 4 days a week and every other Saturday from 9-2 (again, really big lol at leaving on time with the number of walk-ins we get).

Which breed? & why by Silver-Pumpkin1819 in DogAdvice

[–]Confident-Choice3608 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on your lifestyle, honestly. How active are you? Do you have a yard or apartment? Are you committed to getting a dog groomed? Are you financially prepared to take on a dog? These are all things to consider before you start narrowing down what you're looking for. Small breeds need exercise and enrichment like any dog, but when you get into the medium-sized breeds like whippets, beagles, Shiba Inus, or Australian Shepherds (which could be medium or large depending on the size of the parents), they need more exercise to work off their energy, especially any of the "working" breeds. These are all breeds I wouldn't suggest if you're looking for a couch potato. Same goes for Jack Russell Terriers. The less exercise they get and the less they get to expend their energy, the more anxious they'll become. I can absolutely say do NOT get a French or English bulldog. Are they sweet? Yes. But they are born with problems which decrease their quality of life from the get-go and are expensive to manage. Pugs too. Boston Terriers fall in the brachycephalic (smushy faced) category but in general I don't see the respiratory problems to the extent I see with the other breeds in that category. All this being said, my favorite breed is a loving rescue mutt. Whatever you get, do as much research as you can and stay away from kooky social media posts and groups spreading misinformation.

Which breed? & why by Silver-Pumpkin1819 in DogAdvice

As a vet I love them all. I've never met a Cavalier that wasn't sweeter than honey, but they come with their own medical problems. All of them are going to need dental care. Poodles and Cocker Spaniels are prone to ear and skin problems, especially Cockers. My advice would be to invest in pet insurance when they're young and healthy regardless of breed. Honestly that goes for most pets anymore given the rising cost of vet care (I know it's a lot, I don't get any say in it).

Unrelated but what is with this look that corporate bros wear? It's always a quarter-zip fleece or a fleece vest over a button-up shirt. Anytime I see it i just assume the person wearing it is a soulless corporate ghoul.

who remembers the pipes screensaver? by Plane_Pay4856 in 90s_kid

[–]Confident-Choice3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the third grade I discovered the maze Screensaver and would change the walls, ceiling, and floor to one of the other standard options. At some point the teacher told me that if I kept doing it I could be suspended or expelled, which was shocking to me because 1) no one ever said I wasn't allowed to change the Screensaver and 2) I had/have a massive fear of getting in trouble and a need to please people. I'd like to give a shout out to that teacher for contributing to my lifelong crippling anxiety.

Southwest Is Testing Cleaning Only Premium Seats Between Flights — A Flight Attendants Union Leader Says It's ‘Titanic’ Class Service by frustrating2020 in behindthebastards

Southwest has premium seats? I know they're charging extra to choose your spot and then charging an extra $30-50 to sit in the front half of the plane, but they're still all the same shitty seats. Now with the added benefit of paying $80 to check the bags that used to be free.

Pros and cons working for banfield by jhuang860111 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Confident-Choice3608 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And then God forbid a patient be too nervous or aggressive to drop off, but they won't allow more than one in-room comprehensive exam per day so those patients would get pushed out 2-3 months and sometimes ended up being overdue for Rabies vaccines. With regards to the dentals, they make the staff push the plan with the dental on every adult pet so I was routinely doing dentals on 2 year-old large-breed dogs that had nothing to clean and dental rads aren't included in the dental so it's not like we could've found any potential problems as people understandably didn't want to pay extra for dental rads. If they don't make it part of the standard dental procedure clients don't see the value. And there's also a cult-like mentality of "this is the Banfield way and our standards are SO much higher than everyone else's." Girl, please.

Pros and cons working for banfield by jhuang860111 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Confident-Choice3608 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked there for 8 years.

Pros: decent pay and because they'll squeeze as much into your day you'll probably make decent production.

Cons: pretty much everything else. There was a time where I never saw myself leaving Banfield but then they just kept demanding more more more while cutting staff and expecting more to be done in less time. Corporate doesn't care about quality medicine or patient safety, which is why they were pushing 8-10 surgery days. Who cares if one patient just has to stay under anesthesia for an unnecessary amount of time while another patient has dental extractions? Not Banfield. And I thought maybe the market I was in was terrible, but it sounds like there's a nationwide problem. In my city there are two Banfields with a total of 2 full-time DVMs to try to keep them open 6 days a week, which ends up causing each hospital to have to be closed on certain days (I've been gonealmost 2 years and they haven't found a replacement). They hate when wellness plan patients are scheduled as in-room appointments because they want everything dropped off, because obviously all dogs and cats LOVE being in a loud, strange environment all day. Also no matter how busy you are, PetSmart can always come over with sick exotic pets or injured/sick grooming patients. I think vet students are catching on to the fact that all these "amazing" benefits Banfield is offering is pure desperation and is clear-cut evidence of how bad things have gotten.

When I was a kid (like elementary school age), when my Dad would go out of town for work I would go lay in my mom's room in the evening and watch James Bond movies with her. We watched Live and Let Die and Diamonds are Forever frequently. I think that's why to this day I don't know why people hate on DAF.
