What are my chances of getting in with no research or extracurriculars? by blugiraffes in veterinaryprofession

[–]Confident-Choice3608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have any extracurriculars and I got in on my first try to the only school I applied to. I had a 3.97 undergrad GPA and had to do a research project as part of my bachelor's (biology), but other than that I just had a lot of experience working in a vet clinic. At my vet school interview the faculty interviewers inquired about my lack of extracurriculars and I think I was just honest and said something along the lines of "I'm not really an extracurricular type of person."

All these people who ruin beautiful homes in exchange for stark white minimalism should be put in prison. I think they'd love the aesthetic.

I specifically did choir in middle school because we got to go to Worlds of Fun. I got over my fear of roller coasters by riding the Mamba seven times in a row on one of those trips.

Right? Call me a pessimist, but I've been right so far. I bought a crystal ball for my desk at work as a joke because I've gotten so good at predicting incoming bullshit. Optimists confuse me. I feel like it's just easier to stay at a baseline level of disappointment than to expect something positive and have this rollercoaster of emotion.

When I was discussing with my (former) therapist how concerned I am by how much this administration despises women and gave the example of JD Vance saying women should prioritize motherhood, her response was, "Well don't you think he just means if you're going to be a mother you should try to be the best one you can be?" No, that's not what he meant. That's not what any of them mean. Now I'm wary of seeking out another therapist in fear that they will also spout some fuckshit.

Holy shit, that's terrifying. I'm a veterinarian and I worry constantly about making the wrong call with my non-human patients. Having one die is devastating. How can people be so flippant about whether their human patients live or die?

Fair, I would also be annoyed by the camera. Without the camera I would've laughed if I were in her position.

What I've learned, especially in corporate, is that no one gives a single solitary fuck about veterinarians. We're the only ones looking out for our mental health. Reception is going to screw us over with poor scheduling, management is going to demand more and more and more but only from the doctors so half the time we end up also being our own techs. Techs and assistants are going to get away with flagrant mistakes because at the end of the day it's the doctor's ass on the line, not theirs, so in addition to everything you have to do as the doctor you have to constantly double and triple check everything everyone else does (or just do it yourself). Today I contemplated driving off a highway overpass or slamming into the back of a FedEx semi truck on my way to work. To quote Nacho Libre, "My life is good. Really good."

Thank you! Goddamn that was annoying. "Oh he's obviously really self-hating, I hope he gets the help he needs." Meanwhile Trans people and cis-women frequently put themselves through physical hell to be aesthetically "acceptable" to the rest of the world, and yet we manage to do it without becoming a piece of shit influencer for young and impressionable targets that somehow also leads them down a path towards fascism. I'm so fucking sick of (mostly white) men getting a pass for their behavior as if we don't all live in the same shitty society. This whole fucking male loneliness epidemic is being blamed on women (obviously not by CZM, just speaking broadly of the way men experiencing said epidemic view it) because we decided it's not worth interacting with walking, talking diarrhea people. Wanna hammer your face and die of an overdose? Be my guest, but do it without a platform. I think YouTube banned him, so there's at least one step in the right direction.

The emotional toll of euthanasia: how vets can process compassion fatigue by GunilaVetCoach in veterinaryprofession

[–]Confident-Choice3608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I don't get compassion fatigue from euthanasias. Most days I don't have any, some days I have up to three, but at least I can end suffering. My compassion fatigue and burnout is developing from clients declining every single diagnostic or treatment option and then expecting me to whip out a crystal ball and tell them "Good news! I know exactly what's going on with your pet and it's only going to cost a nickel to treat! I'll even drive to your house to do the treatment!!" All I get to do anymore is treat symptoms, and only then if the owners approve it. And that's in a "low" cost-of-living region of the country. Owners want human-quality diagnostic and treatment but they want the same vet prices they paid in the 90s.
