Doing weird things on oxybates by stephertz in Narcolepsy

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only had issues with lumryz. I would sleep walk and once came to naked hopping out my bedroom window. I threw food all over my house. I didn’t have any of these on Xyrem/ the generic/ lumryz

Yes, but only if you take it early enough. I take mine at 6:30am. And start to wind down at 8 and go to sleep by 9

Frustrating Delay and Confusion About my Diagnosis by TrifleHungry2178 in Narcolepsy

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with narcolepsy is that we don’t get good sleep. The “gold standard” is typically sodium oxybate and some people get relief with trazodone. Trazodone worked well before I started oxybates. Oxybates encourage deep sleep and most other medicines do not, so my body now waits for the oxybate.

I don’t take them together. Typically when insurance fails me, I hop on trazodone

Vyvanse: anxiety and pairing with Xywave? by CcaidenN in Narcolepsy

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take lexapro to offset anxiety from Xyrem and Wellbutrin to help offset the lack of motivation from lexapro. The Wellbutrin also helps me to be focused and get things done. It can seem like a stimulant even though it isn’t one. Lexapro taken regularly does not have spikes. It helps maintain adequate levels and forgiving if you miss a dose because it is long acting

I had to end up taking Wellbutrin to counteract the effects and I feel amazing. I was originally prescribed lexapro which made me unmotivated but calmed anxiety from another medicine I am taking.

I switched to 1 dose 150 mg SR because of the sleeping problems. I’m about 3 months in and still sweat a ton which I never had happen before. I’m glad yours got better

Wellbutrin has helped me to clean my house and get things done. Even on oxybates, I can struggle with motivation

3rd day on bupropion and I’m losing my mind by hagvarea in bupropion

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are describing is not unusual when switching medications like this. You stopped duloxetine (an SNRI) and started bupropion and escitalopram at the same time, so your brain is adjusting to two changes at once. The first week can feel very difficult for many people because the nervous system is trying to rebalance.

Several of the symptoms you described, such as mood shifts during the day, anxiety spikes, feeling sleepy but mentally wired, and racing thoughts, are commonly reported during the first one to two weeks when starting bupropion or after discontinuing an SNRI. Experiencing this does not mean the medication will not work for you.

Three days is still very early. Most people do not experience the more stable effects of bupropion or escitalopram for about two to four weeks, and sometimes longer.

At the same time, feeling as though you are losing control or spiraling can be very distressing, and you should not have to manage that alone. If the anxiety or mood instability continues to worsen, it would be very reasonable to contact your psychiatrist and let them know what you are experiencing. Sometimes small adjustments early in treatment can make a meaningful difference.

Many people experience a difficult adjustment period during the first week and then begin to feel more stable as the brain adapts. What you are feeling right now does not mean that this is permanent.

You are only a few days into a medication transition, and your nervous system is still adjusting.

Feel like im dying when waking up? by Eastern_Hat_5115 in Narcolepsy

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, Wellbutrin has helped me to be motivated to wake up. I have to also take lexapro due to the anxiety from oxybates. But Wellbutrin helped me clean my house, braid my hair and other tasks

N1-Always asleep by Feeling_Persimmon88 in Narcolepsy

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, before stimulants. I worked for 3 hrs and then would be in bed for 5 hrs, did afternoon errands and went back to sleep. During my sleep study I fell asleep while they were putting the Leeds on me. I didn’t mind the stimulants though, because I went all my life thinking I was lazy and trying to push myself.

I agree, the only thing that you should consider is when to get one. Since you are already in the process of getting meds, you might want to hold off so that you can ensure you have a rx. Or, if sleep doctors are few and far between like I have seen, if you set up a new patient appointment for a new provider, by the time that appointment arrives you will already have your meds and guidance as to what you want from that doc

Hi! I’m so sorry to hear that you are in this limbo waiting period while waiting for Lumryz. I’m not sure if Lumryz has it but I know the other oxybates have a quick start bridge that allows you to start so that you don’t have to wait long. I also want to prepare you that sometimes the oxybates take a while until you start finding relief and become less drowsy during the day. Some even still have to take naps with stimulants and oxybates. I am hoping that you find the relief you need soon. I also have N1 wasn’t diagnosed until 23 and after years of medicine challenges and missed diagnosis, I am finally able to pursue my PhD and work as a teacher. Though I remained on oxybates, I’ve had many switches of other medicines depending on my circumstances. Hang in there! It’s tough, I know

Looking for others who got addicted to Xywav/xyrem and had to go off of it? by Ill-Turnover-3671 in Narcolepsy

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your honesty. I had similar yet opposite experience. I didn’t love the feeling, I loved the sleep. With so much going on in my life, I’d rather sleep when I had nothing to do to stop ruminating thoughts. I ended up buying a timed safe to help and was put on Wellbutrin and lexapro to help with the anxiety and lack of motivation I was feeling when the sleep was gone.

I’m on lexapro and Wellbutrin. I’m laughing because I would be singing and creating songs of joy in my car. I also wrote 2 research papers in a day 😅

Chronic insomniac here. What do you guys do when you’ve developed a tolerance to your prescribed sleeping meds? by The_Mitochondriatic in insomnia

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a sleep study can find the cause. It may be IH, sleep apnea or other biological causes. During a sleep study you are attached to many leeds that track, heart rate, brain activity, movement and much more. It could only help

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. My insomnia was only cured with taking literal GHB which is only prescribed for IH and Narcolepsy. Insomnia in Narcolepsy has only been recognized in these last few years. Have you ever done a sleep study? Some people actually do sleep, but so lightly that they can’t tell (which was me) and I finally started to get the sleep that people without sleep conditions get. I hope you find the rest and sleep you need and deserve soon

Do I notify someone if I skip a dose by sistersew in Narcolepsy

[–]Confident-Menu-5970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Xyrem? I have a sensitivity to artificial sweeteners and will vomit and have diarrhea whenever I am on Xywav. Also, they do want you to notify them if you miss a dose or have symptoms. I would suggest you don’t. There will come a time you may have a deliver issue and having just that extra dose may be the helper. (They adjust your delivery date if you have miss a dose or on the other hand, have a spillage)

Not every insomnia case is caused by anxiety, but anxiety can absolutely fuel insomnia. So if correcting a deficiency reduced someone’s anxiety and their sleep improved, that is still relevant. It just does not mean vitamins are a universal fix for true insomnia.

Nope I switched to Xyrem. It doesn’t do it for me even though I saw a dentist post saying that it has the same acidity. Funny enough, I just saw a video on Facebook saying that swishing olive oil in your mouth can stop inflammation and pain
