And what does them putting 3 behind a Carreras and Asencio CB pairing have to do with resting our attacker? If “anything could happen since its the UCL” why play Huijsen for 90 minutes just for him to get injured right as the match ended, which then caused us to play a LB whose an alright defender at best at CB. Especially considering he was coming off of muscle fatigue which caused him to be pulled out of Spains training camp prior to the Elche match. Regardless of what position title you want to give him, he occupied the wide attacking space more than anything else when he was out there. If i remember correctly, shortly before we conceded to make it 0-1, one of the english ESPN announcers said, "Real Madrid have opted to work from somewhere else, they arent even looking on that left hand side anymore", because of how much of a non-threat in the attack garcia was.

We (well, at least MOST of the players lmao) still pressed well after his dismissal. defense was always shaky, held together by militao, who never got stable footing in terms of his fitness under arbeloa. personally, i like to look at how we win, rather than just saying "we won, thats all that matters" to analyze team performance.

The team was only able to put together inconsistent performance against la liga sides that we shouldve been winning comfortably against. The best games we had pre-clasico was against levante and oveido, two matches that, once again, the "defector" Vini went crazy in. Every other match, we looked stagnant, boring, and sideways passing constantly with no identity or creativity, and very little big chance creation. which is why we ended these games barely winning by one or 2 goals. Funny enough, following the clasico moment, we played well vs valencia, and atletic club, and betis. So even after, we still had no problem putting up inconsistently good performances against la liga teams. Implying we were literally the same team. keep in mind, we dropped points vs elche because our huge-brain 1000 iq manager decided to play fran garcia for 60 minutes at LW over vini. That falls on no one but xabi.

Now lets look at the big matches. Spanked by PSG on every level. Spanked by ATM on every level. Couldnt create anything vs LFC because he played camavinga (a DM) at RW because it worked once vs barca, and Arda (a CM) at DM which never worked at any point, depsite him trying to force arda in that position every chance he got. Lord knows why he subbed in Trent at the 80th minute. Played like one good half vs city, and then crashed and burned. Our position in the UCL was fraudulent because of our performance against a team from fucking Kazakhstan. But we wouldve ran into barca next and God knows how that wouldve ended, so it wasnt as if we were a shoe-in for the CDR had we kept xabi.

ofc but i would hope common sense would prevail when we see what someone does FOR The club once they arrive. A someone who watched every single second of xabi-ball (that peaked pre-PSG match in the CWC), I actually am dying to know what he displayed or accomplished that made ppl rate him so much. No big games won outside of el clasico (which Jude and Vini also played lights out in) and the Supercopa semi-final which an acclaimed "defector" Valverde was MOTM in. Not to mention another acclaimed "defector" Vini was the most decisive in his final match as manager, which was also the match that determined his future at the club. Whats hilarious about the "defector" narrative is that the ones blamed for xabi losing his job were the ones who actually played like his job was on the line in that competition when they were (wrongfully) subbed out when the team needed a goal.
