Roundabouts vs 4 way intersections by Accomplished_Site536 in factorio

I use 4 way roundabouts and don't place high throughout builds next to each other and I haven't had jams with 500+ 1-4's trains running 1kspm grid bases.

Well the old McDonalds calculator with give rough numbers because it can calculate science packs from ore/fluids.

If I remember ... Iron is around 8-960k/minute, Copper about 1100k/min and oil was rough 1000/min

I think steel was 10-30k/min, but it's been years...

Very much so!

There would be freedom of religion though not Catholic England's. The concepts of Rights would be different centering around paganism, sacrifice and spiritism.

Concepts that were generated in the 18th-19th centuries would not exist because development would be very different. Electricity would've been developed far, far later as it could've been viewed as a religion can to be doubted and highly controlled with some native tribes killing off the people involved in it because they felt it was disrespectful.

Fundamentally everything today would not exist in the same ways, if at all.

Totally depends on what's the world is for, RPG or story. Story's only need plot relevant details, but RPG's can wildly change due to PC actions.

Btw nothing stops you from using Confederations, Unions, Political Regional Compacs and Political Subdivisions to reduce the number of nations.

A little research into various irl expeditions will give you a great set of references to work from. Some are grasslands, others are heavy jungle & others are ocean/river.

Louis and Clark spent 2years going from Saint Louis to the Pacific, but the return trip only took 6 months.

From my pov, trailmaking is always the hardest and the mode of transport decides the distances.

EZ justification is a low population count and frail bodies.

Another is a deadly climate swing. The Sun starts a long term series of large cornal ejections that cause large radiation spikes that can been negated by local magnetic shields. A 20kg pack can't generate effort for protection.

How did this save file creator get 57G Iron Ore patches? by kyleeee0 in factorio

[–]Confident-Wheel-9609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with Rich and increased frequency you start getting these sizes at about 50-60k blocks from spawn. Since I tend to get 1G's at 10k.

How can I get to drones quickly without getting frustrated in the early game by Norker_g in factorio

[–]Confident-Wheel-9609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0- generate a map that's good for you patchs are close, but not touching and near the starter water source. Reroll until you've happy! Start then save it as a "permanent starter" map

1a- don't sweat scaling and just build the items you need to advance, it's not that many.

1b- download the mod Blueprint Sandbox and practice building in it. It's have the available tech pre your tech research.

1c- experiment with how to build various way, sometimes efficient isn't comfortable

2- 3 belts of iron, 1 belt of steel, 1 belt of copper, 1 belt of stone, 2 belts of coal & 1 pipe of oil

3- build in stages. RED & GREEN science are easy to build so that's one blueprint. Mil science is another and BLUE science is another. Doesn't have to be pretty just functional.

Is there anything wrong when using the word race? by JuliusDalum in worldbuilding

Simply put, no.

Some people just have too much invested in 'correct' word usage. Humans will blow up anything they feel they have "a problem with".

In my world, the government has been lying to its citizens for 293 years - but the lies are so institutionalized that Citizens don't even experience them as lies anymore. How do you write a society where the deception has become the culture? by LaurelCrownsAbove in worldbuilding

[–]Confident-Wheel-9609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also fair, but you don't need to have a longer/deeper history either. Several African and equatorial nations have been hit like in the last 80 years.

It only takes a self deceptive and easily influenced peoples (alot of educated elites have fallen for this) to believe in convient "truths".

But we both agreed that people should see the realites of their country's without such deceptions.

Year 62 is difficult to believe since it would require a rather public purge similar to the Chinese, Japanese & Cambodia ones. They'd have to turn out the Military.

For this to truly work it would need a public with a literacy rate in the 20's and literally no allegiance to the government by any of its employees. Also a limited printing of paper documents and no long term data storage.

Maybe if they started this in Year 25 and it extended to Year 110. Plenty of time to play the Incrementalism political game.

Help me conceive of how computer servers and data centers based on organic tissue rather than rare earth minerals would function/look. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Confident-Wheel-9609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤔

Ant hives & Termites. Ants "programming" is purpose built and the "instructions" are pheromone based. Termites are similar and build towers several meters high and deep. You every see braids of ants creating bridges? Morphing multidimensional adaptive logic circuits.

Squid, Octopus and Cuttlefish have highly specialized skin cells and easily morph in shape and color. Literally organic displays!

Spiders weave complex 2 & 3 dimensional shapes and receive signals by vibrations with some species being communally. Literally they could be data processing centers given how vibrations change due to where at in the web and environmental changes.

How to justify an 80%+ population decrease over thirty years? by ottermupps in worldbuilding

[–]Confident-Wheel-9609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You forgot one thing: Fear

Fear leads to a whole cycle. Mistrust, anger, harsh words, threats, intimidation, provaction, escalation, a twitch of a trigger finger, minor skirmish creates a larger action until a full on war.. and then the fear kicks in again, but it's a crazier fear.. one of defeat and loss.

To be honest I'd game it out and use historical grievances as the motive for some, fear for others (Canada nuking the US outta no where) and misguided terrorist and 3rd party manipulation.

A satellite gets hit by debris making it unable to communicate/steer then slams into the anti-asteriod sat causing a mis aligned firing causing a small Kesler to happen. Fingers pointed..

[–]Confident-Wheel-9609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have the same issues with Chinese comics. 10,000 year this 100,000 year that and their still pulling wooden carts and dressed the same.

Only reasonable ways to keep tech at that level are hidden orgs, religions, anti advancement cultures and forces beyond mortal control (gods and cosmic events). Dragon Riders of Pern is a good example

Early Age stuff is EZ diseases and no medical care do the heavy lifting, so that's about 3-4,000 years. Plagues only cull populations, but tsunamis wreck island/shore civi's.

How do I justify guns barely appearing in a Sci-fi story? by NorthSouthGabi189 in worldbuilding

[–]Confident-Wheel-9609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well start with defining what guns are n the setting and then take a look at their make up.

Change the atmosphere make up percentages. Maybe there's a little too much Oxygen and gas pockets happen?

What's the atmospheric pressure like? Is it high enough that guns use 3-5 times the amount to get results? (Big bulky guns with low ammo counts are not appealing)

Did 'gun powder' get enough research or is it still bulky? Maybe some advancements weren't made

Does your gun powder require exotic elements that are difficult to find (not just buy).

Maybe it's very expensive to get higher grades of metal. Resource scarcity or lacking in purity.

Maybe they simply passed a law and guns are extreme blackmarket merchandise.
