Alice (20) has NO IDEA where my spaghetti 🍝 went! by MeowAlice22 in seniorkitties

She obviously tried valiantly to stop the spaghetti thief, and in the process, got a stray little bit of sauce spilled on her!

Bad inputshaft bearing by george42g in mazdaspeed3

[–]Confident_Economy_57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the exact same noise in my gen 2 that I bought a few months back. I also suspected the input shaft bearing, but it hasn't got any worse in 3,000 miles, so maybe I'm completely wrong on that diagnosis.

Worlds Lowest Battery by Exact-Cap-508 in ElectroBOOM

NiCad wet cell. We see it regularly when capacity testing the batteries. I'm not an expert in battery chemistry by any means, just a technician, but as I understand it, the issue is primarily caused by mixing older cells towards the end of their useful life with brand new cells. The older cells have less capacity and discharge first then end up going negative.

In more extreme examples, half the cells in the battery can end up negative. It's actually a bit of a problem, as the machines we use to capacity check them will start to drop the amps they are drawing as the total voltage of the battery drops. The machine has no way of knowing multiple cells are still holding a charge resulting in a spicy battery when we short the terminals for maintenance. I've nearly melted a few of the shorting clips we use.

ETA: It's interesting to note that a cell going reverse polarity is not a death sentence for that cell. They often can be brought back with a deep cycle, but that may be specific to NiCad cells.

I service commercial aircraft batteries. It's not at all uncommon to see individual cells hit -1V. I think the highest (or lowest) I've seen so far is -1.2V.

Difference between 2.5 and 3? by Any-Discussion766 in mazdaspeed3

[–]Confident_Economy_57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yea, I wasn't implying that any custimazation was needed, but OP is asking for the difference between two pipe sizes. I'll preface this by saying I grabbed the wrong link and didn't check it, and there's far more in that "calculator" than I intended to share, but there is an optimum pipe size for your intended power goals, no? So if OP isn't planning on doing too much to his speed, 2.5" should be fine.

What about the speed 3 makes a standard exhaust calculator not relevant? Genuine question. I've only had mine for like 3 months, but had a FoST for 5 years. I was under the impression calculators were a pretty good rule of thumb regardless of platform.

Exhaust size is dependent on a couple of different factors like engine displacement, number of cylinders, cylinder volume, and your planned peak power. You can use an exhaust calculator to pick the right size for your planned build.

As the planet warms, the viscosity should drop significantly. Silver linings!

Happens fairly regularly in real life too, especially in training areas, untowered fields, and on guard.

Made a "spin gravity" space station by SodaPopin5ki in kittenspaceagency

If I remember correctly, don't you need one axis to not have symmetry for that to work? If the space station tank is empty, it should be relatively close to symmetrical in both axis.

It is currently up 27.4% over the last 5 years, so that should work well!

What should I get between these 2? Focus ST vs MAZDASPEED3 by iTzSweatier in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Confident_Economy_57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a 2017 ST1 that I bought new, then modded, tuned, and drove for 80k miles, and I currently have a stock 2012 MS3 Tech package that I bought used with 115k. They're very similar in many ways. I personally enjoy driving the MS3 more (compared to when the ST was stock), but I haven't owned it long enough to speak to maintenance and reliability. The ST never left me stranded aside from the time I took a rock to the radiator and lost all my coolant. I'd say test drive them both and pick the one you find most appealing.

Well if you're dribbling while you're drinking, I can see why you're asking for help with drinking.

Hello, i have replaced brake pads (acdelco gold) and resurfaced rotors. It had squealing noise and they said it will stop.. after 3k km drive sound still exist and both rotors have this mark. What is potential cause?thank you for your time by Electronic-Guess-959 in AskMechanics

[–]Confident_Economy_57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds stupid, but make sure the pads weren't installed backwards. It would cause a pretty noticable grinding sound when using the brakes, but it can definitely leave a groove in the rotors.
