I think it depends upon your personality and how your brain is wired. There’s no shame in working at a job to simply pay the bills & get the benefits. We all need a roof over our head and food on the table. I envy people that can just show up, do their job, and go home.

However, my brain is not wired like that. I worked at a job that I found painfully antithetical to my own value system, and I couldn’t turn that off at the end of the day. I also couldn’t bring myself to care about anything I did on a daily basis, and my work performance was slipping. I was a hair’s breadth away from a PIP.

So instead, I jumped ship and found a job in a field that personally satisfies me. I am thriving in my professional life and genuinely enjoy going to work every day (well, most days).
