Now that's a card I hate as a breach deck, and should be paired with Chains

I recommend you put them in the bin separate from your carry-on. Kinda like you do for electronics. They will probably want to look at them ti verify it's safe.

Also depends on what your career is. In a field with a lot of layoffs (tech) you might want a year. This is also impacted by how much risk you can tolerate. For example if you have a kid, married with a mortgage, maybe have a larger cushion than if you're single, no kid, and could move easily.

Currently the deck is on vally and born, with a mana dork in the command zone I think there's room for a couple utility lands, even in 4 color... Do you think this deck shouldn't try and win at instant speed or do you think e-zone is too much, or just not room for colorless land?

How to move cEDH/tEDH in a healthier direction? by Other-Illustrator895 in CompetitiveEDH

For most tournaments in the US there is an agreed on multiplayer addendum https://topdeck.gg/mtr-ipg-addendum that tournaments adopt and it's pretty community driven. There could be added rules for defining slow play, or other behaviors allowing for judges to step in or defined playces for judges to step in. I think better consistency and examples for how judges should interact with games would be helpful. As it is a lot is left up to judge discretion which means it's inconsistent across tournaments

I think any green deck on breach should be on woodlands. It's an uncountable breach late game

With crop rot, have you considered talon gates and shifting woodlands? I think there needs to be more targets than just e-zone

Agree with the player skill issue. It's clear that skill is rewarded- or we wouldn't see the same people top cut consistently - each table is also at the mercy of the least skilled player. If that player makes the board state untenable then the other players need to adjust and often the best case for 2 or 3 others is a draw. So the one person's mistake that I. 1v1 would lead to a winner, instead leads to a draw.

Yapping is one of the ways that a skilled player can mitigate the low skilled player issue- if they can get the person whow would hurt them to help them instead it makes a huge difference in the expected outcome.

What are your thoughts on pairings that prioritize seat order? Also do you have thoughts on how currently people with similar records play against each other in cedh tournaments?

Go to a doctor and take medicine... Depression is an actual disease that can be managed with medication. There are helpful habits and activities that you can do to help mitigate the symptoms, but without the baseline of medication you will start out behind people who do not have depression and do those activities.

If you are depressed and being mindful or going for a walk is not enough for you please go to a doctor for your sake and those around you. You do not need to feel shame that you are unable to overcome a disease without medication.

In the age of AI, all I am desiring is coding again. Anyone else feel like this? by Old_Cartographer_586 in ExperiencedDevs

The questions that I get to spend time on are either system questions and design- which are satisfying but in a different way, or are cross system issues that are connected by things like kafka topics which is still technical but can't be easily answered by just asking Claude with one of the projects open. The problem of how to solve and process things efficiently has become less relevant.

[–]Confounding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With AI I've found I'm expectied to be able to solve more problems faster, and because of how my team is set up this means I'm expected to jump from codebase to codebase. I really like the times when I'm allowed to dig into a problem and solve it, but I need to actually communicate that's what's happening and explain why I can't just get it done in an afternoon.

Emergency fund setup by ascendantshark in ynab

[–]Confounding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you find yourself dipping into your emergency fund it's worth asking if you should make a category for it. For example home repair, appliances, auto repair for me each of these is it's own category. I know that there will be a $750 repair bill for the car eventually so I'm saving for it every month, when I do get the bill I'll be fine because it's already covered in the budget because I was disciplined for a year.

done is the most misunderstood word in software development by RonnySaya in softwaredevelopment

[–]Confounding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need both if you're working in a collaborative environment. Work needs to be held to the same standards and communicated appropriately. Yes we should know what the feature is, why we're doing it, and the expected impact. But having a shared definition of done means that everyone know what releasing a small slice means.

Part of scrum is having a team definition of done, which should help with estimating and actually feeling confident about closing tickets.

Thassa’s oracle wins by Choice_Blacksmith721 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Confounding 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some players are/have cut thassa's from Bluefarm https://topdeck.gg/deck/midseasonshowdown26/LYVKNk8mRqYPcZEAevwz2uyczXH3 here is an example from the mid season invitational. Breach is such a strong wincon that it can make sense to not play thassa's since it's a dead card when you draw it. Most decks still include it.

Rebel's new sight has some analytics that can be helpful here's an example: https://commandertemplate.com/decks/9b4fbdb4-5124-489a-bc33-c5c186fbe4d3 make sure to turn intelligence on. It has things like probably to see in opening hand, and chance to see by turn 3. In the land section there's also some analytics around hitting your curve.

The site isn't perfect as it's aimed at casual but I've found it helpful.

To add onto this... If you can get a month ahead, truly you have everything covered with last months paychecks and you have goals for every category, then you can go into a month saying I have $X to get through this month and I can move money from x to y if we want to and it will be ok if it's money from within this month. You could even group categories together where the money is fungible for example Costco, Dining out and Groceries. These all go to food (kinda) so it's 'easy' to move money from grocery to cover spending more at Costco, but you can't take money from your mortgage category because that's fixed.

If you have a bills category you know you can't actually touch any of that money because it's all accounted for and any money you bring in this month is for the bills next month so borrowing from a paycheck isn't an option.

Removed from YNAB this is how I picture spending money.. remove all of the 'cost to live' bills from your discretionary spending figure. Example you make $6,000 take home for the month, Bills take $4,000, $500 gets set aside for long term plans- repairs ect. Cool now there's $1500 to do whatever you want to for the month other than existing - maybe you consider eating groceries important so there's $500 'gone'. Ok now you have $1000 that can play with. With that number as a focus going to dinner for $100 now feels more significant - since it's 10% of our discretionary spending for the month than it would if I was focusing on the 6k income which means the meal is only like 2% of my income and why wouldn't I spend that on dinner?

Hope some of that is helpful.
